I called out her name again, louder this time. "Lyra!"
She froze mid-motion, her eyes wide as if snapped out of some trance. Then, just as quickly, she sped back toward me in a blur, stopping inches from where I stood.
The chaos of gunfire and shouting seemed to fade for a moment as she looked up at me, her chest rising and falling with rapid breaths. There was a strange mix of emotions in her eyes-anger, fear, and something close to regret.
"I'm sorry," she said, her voice low but clear. "I didn't mean to-" She glanced at the bodies scattered across the ground, the aftermath of her attack. "I just couldn't stand seeing your men getting hurt. I had to stop them."
I nodded, understanding her instinct to protect. She wasn't used to the controlled chaos of a fight like this, the way things had to move in measured steps. Lyra was all power, all instinct, and she'd been forced to survive by reacting, not waiting. But here, that raw reaction could get her killed-or worse, cost us more than we could afford to lose.
"I get it," I said, my voice steady despite the adrenaline pulsing through me. "But you have to remember, we're a team. You can't do this alone. You can't run off like that without backup."
Her eyes flickered with frustration, but she nodded, biting her lip. "I won't do it again."
I could see she meant it, at least for now. But I also knew that controlling her instincts wasn't going to be easy, especially in situations like this.
"We're almost done here," I said, turning back to survey the remaining chaos. "Stay with me, and we'll finish this together."
She glanced back at the battlefield, the tension still in her posture, but she didn't argue. She was listening-for now.
The war around us raged on, a chaotic symphony of gunfire and shouts. I kept my focus on Lyra, her eyes locked on me as I barked out orders, her gaze unwavering. But then, amidst the melee, I saw her stagger. My heart lurched as Alessandra, relentless and fierce, tackled her to the ground.
The brutal scene unfolded before me-Alessandra's fists pounding mercilessly into Lyra's face. My instincts screamed to intervene, but the sheer ferocity of Alessandra's assault held me back. I fought to break through, but the chaos around us made it nearly impossible.
Just as I was about to lose hope, a blinding surge of electricity lit up the room. Alessandra was thrown violently against the ceiling, her body slamming into it with a crack before she dropped back down. I glanced around, stunned, searching for the source of the power.
Lyra pushed herself up from the ground, her movements swift despite the battering she had taken. The bruises on her face were already fading, her healing accelerating at an alarming rate. It was clear now-her unlocking of full potential had indeed enhanced her abilities, her recovery much faster than I had anticipated.
I rushed to her side as she steadied herself, the intensity in her eyes telling me she was more determined than ever. The battlefield was still fierce, but Lyra's resilience gave me hope. I helped her up, watching her ready herself for the next wave of the fight.
"Lyra, stay close," I commanded, trying to stay focused amidst the chaos. "We need to finish this. Together."
She nodded, a fierce determination burning in her eyes. Despite the pain and the remnants of the struggle, she was ready. And I knew, as we moved back into the fray, that whatever came next, we would face it as one.
Lyra's pov
"I can't believe I just managed to let out that electric surge," I said, a smile tugging at my lips despite the chaos around us. The shock had felt powerful, almost exhilarating.
I glanced at Deon, who was still managing the battle with intense focus. "Do you mind if I do something very quick? I promise I won't hurt anyone," I asked, my tone a mix of excitement and apprehension.
Deon's eyes flickered with curiosity and concern. "What are you planning to do?"
I took a deep breath, trying to steady the new surge of energy I could feel within me. "Just something to give us an edge. I need a moment to focus, and then I'll be right back."
Without waiting for his response, I sped around the battlefield, my movements blurring to everyone else. I snatched guns from the enemies' hands with precision, each weapon vanishing as if by magic. The world seemed to slow down around me as I darted through the chaos.
My gaze caught a glimpse of a laptop sitting on a nearby desk. I grabbed it, feeling the weight of the device in my hands as I sped back to Deon. Everything snapped back into normal speed as I stood beside him, the laptop held triumphantly.
"I saw this laptop. Should we take it?" I asked, smiling up at him.
Deon looked at the laptop, his expression shifting from surprise to interest. "Good job. That could contain valuable information. We'll take it."
As he gave the command to secure the laptop, I felt a surge of pride. My actions had contributed in a meaningful way, giving us a potential advantage in the midst of the battle. I stayed close to Deon, ready to assist further as we pressed on with the fight.
