Titus P.O.V
I revved the engine of my bike, the deep growl of it humming through my chest as I sped down the road. The town was quiet today, but something felt off. I couldn't shake the feeling that something big was about to happen, like the air had shifted, thick with tension. When my phone buzzed, I knew that feeling wasn't just in my head.
_Witch sighting. Bus headed into town._
My jaw clenched as I took a sharp turn, the familiar road leading into the heart of town coming into view. Witches didn't usually come this way, and when they did, they damn well knew to ask permission. We might not have the same blood feud with them as some packs did—hell, my family didn't hate them at all—but there were rules. Walking into wolf territory without asking was a slap in the face. Rude as hell.
As Alpha, it was my job to check it out. Make sure this witch wasn't here to start trouble. The pack didn't need any more problems. Especially with my mom's condition getting worse every day and me trying to keep everything running smoothly.
The engine rumbled louder as I rode into town, my eyes scanning the streets. Nothing seemed out of place, but I trusted my pack. If they said a witch was here, she was here.
I parked the bike near the square, letting it idle for a moment as I took in my surroundings. The bus had come in just a little while ago, which meant she couldn't have gone far. I hopped off the bike, running a hand through my hair as I started walking. The sun was high, burning down through the thick trees that lined the streets, casting long shadows across the pavement.
And then I caught it.
A scent.
It hit me out of nowhere, like a punch to the gut. Sweet, like wildflowers after a rainstorm, mixed with something else—something warm, human, and completely intoxicating. My feet froze, and for a second, I couldn't move. I couldn't think. That scent—it was impossible to mistake.
Mate.
My heart slammed against my ribs, my hands curling into fists at my sides. The primal urge to find her, to track her down, surged through me, stronger than anything I'd ever felt before. My wolf stirred, a low growl rumbling through my chest as the need to claim, to protect, took hold.
I took a deep breath, trying to ground myself, but it was no use. The scent was pulling me, dragging me in, and no amount of self-control could stop it. My eyes scanned the streets, searching, needing to find her.
And then I saw her.
She was walking quickly, her head down, like she was trying to avoid attention. But I saw everything in that split second. The copper hair that glinted under the sunlight, wild and loose. The curve of her body, short and soft, every movement filled with purpose. Pale skin dotted with freckles across her nose, a few on her cheeks. She was beautiful, even from this distance.
I took a step forward, my chest tightening as I realized who she was. The witch.
A mix of emotions hit me all at once—shock, confusion, and the undeniable pull of the bond that told me she was mine. How the hell was my mate a witch? My wolf growled again, pacing inside me, not caring who or what she was. He just knew she was ours. That was enough.
But my human side... that was a different story. She was a witch, on my territory, without permission. She was supposed to be the enemy. And yet every part of me wanted to run to her, take her in my arms, make sure she was safe.
I took another step, but stopped myself. I needed to think. I needed to figure out what the hell was going on before I acted. I couldn't just rush in. There were rules, and I was the Alpha. If I lost control, it would be chaos.
I watched her from a distance, my body aching to move, but I held back. She didn't know who I was yet, and I didn't want to scare her off. Not when I had so many questions.
Who was she? Why was she here? And why the hell was my mate a witch?
I had to find out. And I had to do it fast.
Because no matter how much I tried to fight it, I couldn't deny the truth that was already coursing through my veins.
She was mine.
