Adeline
The drive back to the pack house felt like a blur, my heart racing with hope and fear. As soon as we crossed the boundary of Titus's land, the bond between us flared with an intensity I hadn't felt in months. It guided me like a beacon, pulling me towards him.
When we arrived at the pack house, I was stunned to find it eerily quiet. Titus was nowhere to be seen. Panic surged through me as I searched the halls, my heart pounding in my chest. I called out for him, but the silence that answered was unsettling.
The bond led me to the basement, and I felt a rush of relief mixed with dread as I descended the stairs. The basement bar was dimly lit, and there, on the couch surrounded by empty bottles of alcohol, lay Titus. My heart dropped at the sight of him—pale, barely moving, and clearly in distress.
"No, no, no," I whispered, rushing to his side. "Titus, please wake up!"
I shook him gently, my hands trembling with fear. Tears streamed down my face as I called his name, desperation cracking my voice.
His eyes fluttered open, filled with confusion. When he saw me, disbelief crossed his face. "Adeline? Is that... is that really you?"
"Yes, it's me," I choked out, my voice thick with tears. "I'm here. Please, stay with me."
He attempted to sit up but winced, his movements slow and pained. "I thought I'd lost you forever. I'm so tired, Adeline. I didn't want to live without you anymore. Maybe in the next life, we'll find each other. Maybe things will be simpler then. For now let me rest here Addie, let me dream you're here with me like you're meant to be."
I felt my heart shatter at his words. "No, Titus, don't talk like that. You're not dreaming. I'm here. Please, don't give up on us."
Without waiting for a response, I gently guided him back down onto the couch. "Stay here. I'm going to take care of you."
I dashed to the kitchen, grabbing a bottle of water and some food. When I returned, Titus was still slumped on the couch, his eyes half-closed. I carefully helped him sit up and placed a glass of water to his lips. "Drink this," I said softly.
He took a few sips, his hand shaking slightly. I could see how exhausted he was, the weight of his grief and alcohol leaving him nearly incapacitated. I opened a container of food and tried to coax him to eat. "You need to eat something. It'll help you feel better."
Titus took a few bites, his expression softening as he looked at me. "Adeline, I..."
"Shh," I interrupted, brushing a stray lock of hair from his forehead. "Just focus on getting better. I'm here now, and I'm not leaving you."
I continued to feed him and make sure he drank enough water, my heart aching with every labored breath he took. I could see the bond between us growing stronger, mending the broken pieces of our connection.
As he slowly started to improve, I sat beside him, holding his hand and talking softly to him. I could feel his exhaustion, but I also felt a glimmer of hope returning. I needed him to be strong again, for both of us.
Eventually, Titus managed to lean against the couch, his eyes clearer. "You came back," he murmured, his voice thick with emotion. "I thought I'd lost you forever."
"You didn't lose me," I said firmly, holding his gaze. "I'm here, and I'm not going anywhere. We're going to get through this together."
Titus tried to sit up more comfortably, but I gently guided him back down. "Just rest," I said softly. "I'll stay with you. We can talk and sort everything out once you're feeling better."
He nodded weakly, his hand gripping mine. The bond between us was starting to heal, and I felt the warmth of our connection growing stronger. I stayed by his side, nursing him back to health, determined to make sure he knew he wasn't alone.
As the night wore on, Titus's breathing steadied, and he seemed to regain some of his strength. I kept watch over him, my heart full of a fierce resolve to protect and care for him. The bond between us was as vital as ever, and as long as we had each other, I knew we could face whatever challenges lay ahead.
