Titus
I woke with a groan, my head resting on a soft, comforting lap. The warmth and steady rhythm of breathing beneath me felt so real, it was almost surreal. Blinking away the haze of sleep, I found Adeline's familiar gaze above me, her fingers gently stroking my hair. The reality of her presence sent a rush of relief through me, mingled with a lingering fear that this was yet another dream.
"Adeline?" I murmured, my voice hoarse.
She smiled down at me, her eyes brimming with a tenderness that made my heart ache. "Good morning," she said softly.
The relief I felt was immense, but so was the fear that she might leave again. The thought of losing her for a second time was unbearable, and it made Blaze growl in frustration and possessiveness. I knew it would take time for Blaze to fully trust her again, for him to feel secure that she wouldn't vanish from our lives.
"Can you stay here for a moment?" I asked, my voice laced with the vulnerability I felt. I needed to ensure she was truly here to stay.
She nodded, her expression gentle but resolute. "Of course."
I managed to lift my head slightly and reached for the phone on the coffee table, calling for someone to bring breakfast. As the minutes ticked by, I kept my head on her lap, relishing the comfort of her presence. The bond between us felt renewed but not quite as it was before; it was like we were reconnecting the threads of something precious.
Blaze was restless, his primal instincts flaring with a need to keep Adeline close. He was fiercely protective and determined to ensure she was safe and content. There was a lingering anger in him, frustration at himself for not being able to keep her happy and near him before. He refused to let her leave my lap, needing to reclaim a semblance of control and comfort.
When the breakfast arrived, Blaze insisted on feeding her himself. I could feel his frustration as he fed her, the same intense desire to keep her close and make her happy. It was as if our mating had been a distant memory, and Blaze was determined to make up for the time lost. He held her securely in his lap, his gaze fixed on her with a mixture of affection and possessiveness.
I watched as Adeline accepted the food from Blaze's hand, her eyes reflecting both appreciation and a touch of nervousness. The way Blaze held her, the way he refused to let her move, was a constant reminder of how much he needed to ensure her safety and happiness. He was angry with himself for not being able to protect her before, and it made him even more determined now.
As Blaze fed her, I couldn't help but feel a deep ache inside. The primal urge within Blaze was strong, and it was clear he was not ready to let go of the control he sought. I understood his need, but it also made me realize how much healing was still needed for all of us.
When breakfast was over, Blaze allowed Adeline to move, but his hold on her was reluctant. He was still angry and hurt, and it was going to take time for him to trust her again completely. For now, all we could do was focus on rebuilding our bond and finding a way to heal the wounds from our past.
"Thank you," I said softly to Adeline as she settled beside me on the couch.
She smiled and rested her head on my shoulder. "I'm just glad to be back," she replied, her voice muffled against my shirt.
Blaze's growls softened, and I could sense his frustration ebbing away, replaced by a sense of cautious relief. We had a long road ahead of us, but for now, we were together. And together was where we needed to be, no matter how many obstacles lay in our path.
