Blaze's POV
The moment she wrapped her arms around us, I could feel Titus losing his grip, his control slipping like sand through his fingers. He was holding on, fighting to stay in charge, but it wasn't enough. I had been patient for long enough, watching from within as he took his time with her, speaking softly, holding back. But now... now it was my turn.
I surged forward, taking control as the comforting warmth of her touch spread through me. My chest rumbled with satisfaction as I hugged her tighter, breathing her in, letting her scent soothe the burning desire that had been clawing at me for weeks.
"Blaze?" Adeline's voice was soft, a little uncertain as she pulled back to look at me. She must've sensed the shift, the difference.
Without answering, I slid my hands down to her waist, lifting her off the ground with ease. She let out a startled gasp, her eyes widening as I cradled her against me, carrying her toward the door.
"W-what are you doing?" she stammered, glancing toward the guards who stood at attention outside the door, their expressions carefully neutral. She squirmed slightly, her face flushing with embarrassment. "I can walk, you know."
"No," I growled, my voice deeper, rougher than Titus's. I met her gaze, feeling the heat of her body against mine. "I don't want you walking. I want to hold you. All the time." My eyes flicked toward the guards, a possessive growl rumbling in my chest. "I'll scoop their eyes out and make them eat them if they even think about looking at you."
Adeline gasped, her cheeks flushing an even deeper shade of red. She stared at me, mouth slightly agape, before deciding it was probably best not to argue. I felt her settle into my arms, her small hands clutching my shoulders, her pulse quickening. Good. She was learning.
I didn't care who saw. Let them look. Let them know that she was mine, my mate, my Luna. If anyone dared to even think of challenging that, they would have to deal with me—and no one would want that.
I carried her through the halls of the pack house, ignoring the way the guards averted their eyes, smart enough to know better than to stare. My focus was entirely on her, the feel of her soft, warm body in my arms, the way her heart beat faster every time she glanced up at me.
When we reached the room, I kicked the door shut behind us with a heavy thud, walking straight to the bed. Gently, I sat down with her still in my lap, positioning her so that she was facing me.
She shifted nervously, her hands resting on my shoulders, her eyes searching my face. "Blaze, I..."
I tilted my head, watching her closely, my hands never leaving her waist. I could feel the tension in her body, the way she was trying to stay calm even though she was probably still a little nervous around me. Good. A little fear wasn't bad. It kept things interesting.
"You belong here," I said, my voice low and firm. "With me. With us. Don't run, don't hide, Adeline. I'll keep you safe." I brushed my thumb across her cheek, enjoying the way her skin flushed beneath my touch.
Her lips parted, and for a moment, she didn't say anything. Then she nodded slowly, her gaze softening. "I know, Blaze. I just... this is all so new."
I could feel Titus stirring inside me, his concern mixing with mine. He wanted to reassure her, to calm her fears. But right now, I needed her to know she was safe not just with him, but with me too. I wasn't some force to be afraid of. I was her mate—her protector.
I leaned in closer, my nose brushing against her neck as I breathed her in. "You never need to be scared around me, Adeline. I'll destroy anything that tries to hurt you. Including my own family if I have to."
Her breath hitched at my words, her fingers tightening on my shoulders. She trembled slightly, her eyes wide and conflicted, but I could see the trust slowly building there. She knew I was serious. And she knew I would always keep that promise.
We sat like that for a while, her in my lap, my arms wrapped tightly around her. I could feel her starting to relax against me, her body leaning into mine as the tension slowly drained away. She was safe. I'd make sure of it.
No one would ever take her from me. Not Aspen. Not anyone.
