Titus POV
It had been a week since Titus and Adeline had mated, and though his heat had faded, the pull between them was stronger than ever. Every morning, without fail, Titus found himself asking her to accompany him to his office while he handled pack business. It was almost as if he couldn't concentrate without her nearby, her presence grounding him in ways he hadn't known he needed.
Their routine had become seamless. Adeline would bring her laptop and books, settling down to study for her online classes while he sorted through endless piles of paperwork. Despite the quiet nature of their days, there was an undercurrent of tension that kept Titus on edge. His thoughts constantly drifted to Aspen. The fact that they hadn't found his uncle yet gnawed at him, leaving a bitter taste in his mouth. He had a sinking feeling that Aspen wasn't done, and the idea of his mate being in danger because of his uncle made his wolf restless.
Adeline, on the other hand, had adjusted far better than he had anticipated. He had worried that moving into the pack house and stepping into the role of Luna—unofficially for now—would be overwhelming for her. But she was strong, resilient. It seemed she was born to be by his side, handling everything with grace and quiet determination. It soothed him in a way, knowing she could handle this life.
But that didn't mean everything was settled. The thought of introducing her to the pack formally as their Luna was looming over him like a dark cloud. Titus knew there would be resistance. Some wolves still held prejudice toward witches, and he anticipated challenges to his leadership once they learned Adeline's true identity. He was ready, though. He'd fight any challenge, tear down anyone who questioned his mate. She was his, and that was all that mattered.
Still, the pressure of it all weighed heavily on him as he worked. His pen scratched across the paper, his mind only half-focused on the words in front of him. He was deep in thought when Adeline's voice broke the silence.
"Titus?"
He glanced up, finding her staring at him from across the room, a playful smile tugging at the corner of her lips. "Hmm?"
She leaned back in her chair, stretching her arms over her head with a sigh. "You've been working all morning. You need a break."
He arched an eyebrow. "And what exactly do you suggest?"
Adeline's smile grew wider, mischief dancing in her eyes. "Something fun."
Before he could ask what she meant, she threw a piece of balled up paper at me then she bolted out of her chair and dashed for the door, giggling as she went. Titus blinked, momentarily stunned, before his wolf perked up in excitement. A chase. His mate wanted to play.
For a second, Blaze pushed forward in his mind, growling in eager anticipation. **Catch her.**
Titus smirked, rising to his feet with a sense of purpose. "Adeline," he called after her, his voice teasing but firm, "you know I'm faster than you."
Her laughter echoed down the hallway as she continued running. "We'll see about that!"
Titus was already on the move, his long strides closing the distance between them. He could hear her light footsteps as she sprinted ahead, but she wouldn't get far. His wolf thrilled at the idea of the chase, the predator in him waking up as he pursued her.
Adeline rounded a corner, disappearing from sight, but Titus didn't need to see her. He could feel her, sense her with every beat of his heart. The bond between them hummed, guiding him effortlessly in her direction. He could hear her giggles up ahead, and it made his wolf growl in satisfaction.
"Adeline," he called out again, his voice deeper this time, more commanding. "I'm coming for you."
She yelped playfully from down the hallway, her footsteps quickening as she tried to evade him. But it was no use. He pushed his wolf forward, letting his speed take over as he closed in on her. Within seconds, he rounded the corner just in time to see her dart toward the back stairs that led to the garden.
With a grin, Titus surged forward and grabbed her waist, lifting her effortlessly off the ground. She shrieked in surprise, her laughter bubbling over as she kicked her feet playfully.
"I got you," he growled, his lips brushing her ear.
Adeline squirmed in his grasp, but it was all in good fun. "That's not fair! You're too fast."
"Fair doesn't matter when it comes to catching my mate," he teased, turning her around to face him, her feet barely touching the ground as he held her close.
Her cheeks were flushed from the chase, her chest rising and falling with each breath, and Titus couldn't help but feel a surge of pride at how perfectly she fit in his arms. His wolf was content, pleased with the game, and more than that, it was elated to have her so close.
Adeline rested her hands on his chest, her smile softening as she looked up at him. "You really don't know how to lose, do you?"
Titus chuckled, his grip tightening around her waist. "Not when it comes to you."
For a moment, they stood there, just looking at each other, their breaths mingling in the space between them. Titus's heart swelled with a fierce protectiveness. He knew there were still challenges ahead—Aspen, the pack, their future—but in that moment, none of it mattered. All that mattered was the woman in his arms, the one who had so effortlessly stolen his heart.
Adeline's smile faded into something more thoughtful, her hands tracing the lines of his shirt. "I love you, you know," she whispered, her voice barely audible.
Titus's chest tightened at her words, a warmth spreading through him like wildfire. "I love you too," he said, his voice gruff with emotion.
And as he looked into her eyes, he knew that no matter what came their way—no matter the challenges, the dangers—they would face it together. Because she was his, and he was hers, and nothing would ever change that.
