Lila and Diego were just leaving the law office, meeting with their lawyers and trying to work out the terms of their divorce. Lila was tired of waiting for Diego to come to a reasonable understanding between the two of them and began to settle everything in a formal way.
Diego didn't show up for the first meeting, but he did for the second, but he was still quite negative about the divorce. It looked like everything would eventually have to be decided in court, which was something Lila had wanted to avoid all along.
As they angrily left the law office, they both headed for the elevators and got on one, "do you want to wait for another elevator by any chance?" Lila asked.
"Not really, I don't have all day to hang around!"
Lila sighed and finally pressed the button for the ground floor.
The two of them stood side by side, it was almost grave silent when Diego started laughing. Lila looked up at him. "What?"
"Oh, I was just remembering our days at that Obsidian Hotel! You dragged me into the elevator just so we could have fun together, in fact you wanted to do it elsewhere in the hotel, remember? And now we're in another elevator, coming from the lawyer who's handling our divorce."
Lila rolled her eyes, "nice summary of our relationship."
"I thought you liked tall, strong guys." He uttered with resentment. "Could Five even lift you up in his arms? I remember you liked that too."
Lila reached for the elevator stop button, "what's up Diego? Do you want to discuss whether I enjoy it with him as much or more than with you?"
Diego pressed the button and the elevator started again, "of course not, I don't care!"
"Then don't ask me such stupid questions," she uttered seriously, "you'd be surprised at the things Five can do." She added much more quietly.
This time the button was pressed by Diego, "that's enough, I'm not listening to this!"
"Then push the stupid button and let's keep going!" She reached for the button and off they went again. Only they weren't allowed to start arguing with each other in there, trying to stop and start the elevator several times. For suddenly the elevator remained stopped and none of the buttons responded.
"That's your fault!" They exclaimed to each other.
"Well I'm not the one who kept stopping the elevator!"
"Because you're trying to provoke me!"
"Oh sure, I started reminiscing about our bed games."
After a little exchange, Lila rang the emergency button, hoping someone would get them off the elevator soon. They each stood on one side of the elevator and looked anywhere but at each other.
There was silence for a few minutes.
"I just really don't get it..." uttered Diego finally. "You two don't make any sense at all!"
"Yeah, Diego, that would be because my relationship with him is between Five and me, it's not a group project. It makes total sense to us. Besides, if you're wondering, I'm more of a sapiosexual."
"What the hell is that?"
Lila looked in front of her, holding back a laugh, "try googling it then, maybe you'll understand what can turn me on more than lifting up in the air."
Silence reigned again.
"I just don't really get it..." said Diego finally. "You two make no sense at all!"
"Yeah, Diego, that would be because my relationship with him is completely unexpected between him and me, it's not a group project and it makes total sense to us. Besides, if you're wondering, I'm more of a sapiosexual."
"What the hell is that?"
Lila looked in front of her, holding back a laugh, "try googling it then, maybe then you'll understand what turns me on more than lifting me up in the air."
Silence reigned again.
"What makes you think it will work with him when it didn't work with me?"
"What exactly?"
"Everything! The relationship with him, the parenting, the marriage. Obviously you're planning on that too!" He looked at her hand, which had a ring on it. "Is that why you're so anxious for a divorce?"
"No, Diego, I want a divorce because this is just a pointless prolongation of something that's already over." She said seriously. "Are you doing all this on purpose? Out of spite or why? We're already acting as if we're divorced, so why are you so hell-bent on not signing a paper that just makes it official?"
"Exactly! I don't want to make it official!"
"Why?"
"I can't let him be that happy!"
"Who? Five?"
"Yeah, who else, he is so obsessed with you! If you'd put a collar on him and told him to bark, he would have done it, and I don't understand how you managed to do something like that! As long as you're my wife, he still sleeping only with brother's wife, you're never all his."
Lila laughed, "oh, this is pathetic, Diego!" She glared at him, "I don't need to be divorced and have a piece of paper saying I'm his wife...I'm all his anyway! And just so you know, this isn't a game, I'm not some trophy you're competing for!"
"That's what you think."
"Really? Okay, let's not divorce, if it pleases your soul, I'll be your wife forever, but I'll never be yours again. Not for one single day! You'll never move from your spot again, but I'll move on whether you want me to or not!"
At that, the elevator started up. The atmosphere in the cabin was already thick.
When the elevator came to a stop, Lila almost ran out of it.
Diego came out right behind her, "okay, I'll take your word for it!" He shouted at her, not noticing the woman heading into the elevator, bumping into her as she spilled the now partially cooled coffee she was holding onto him. He was about to start cursing when he looked up and went pale.
"E-Eudora?"
Lila noticed that Luther and Sloane were standing nearby, behind the glass door, grinning. Confused, she turned to see a shocked Diego staring at his former love. She ran outside after them.
"Fine, I want to hear everything!"
