Why are the voices of strangers in the distance

Around the corner

Absent minded

Unaware of me

The white noise that calms me

Their voices carry

They save a part of me

If I am human it means I am also them

Their words, their stories, their sleepless nights

What they talk about in secret affairs

Yet I am listening

For once I hear them

I am listening

Their voices carry

I don't care to ignore them

They are merely sound

White noise

And I'm thinking about how things used to be

No anthem is held over my head

They don't know that

Others have no clue

These words slip through my fingers

Not on the tip of my tongue

Because I won't bother to tell anyone

They comfort me

I'm intrigued

I care

And they don't know

I'll never tell

Their voices carry

Carry me away as I wander

Fading into their white noise.
