The puddle was reflecting the city alleyway and it was perfectly peaceful. SPLASH!
Two kids ran at top speed through the streets. One was a 19 year old boy who had sapphire blue eyes and sandy brown hair with pale skin that would be a light Carmel color if he had proper nourishment. His gray pants were tucked into brown boots. His red biker jacket was open revealing a black shirt underneath. To top it off he wore a simple silver necklace that was a chain around his neck and a circle hanging from the chain. It was engraved with the letter E. His name was Nick The other kid was a young girl about 14, blueish black hair, tied in a bubble braid and a true purple hairband holding her hair from her face. Her bangs hung over her eyebrows. Her skin was the same as the boy. Her brown boots hardly made a sound. The jeans were dirty and a little worn, as was her purple shirt under her brown jacket. Her green eyes were stony, had little sparkling, that kids her age had. A Bo-staff was connected to a fabric strap, slinging it around her body in a diagonal line. She had a scar across her face dividing it into north and south. She was called Kayla Nick had a long scar that ended at his left eyebrow and went down his cheek, another one was shorter and crossed the original. The two skidded around the corner and came to a dead end. "No where to run or hide." A boy about Nick's age told them, and he brought friends, two other boys around Nick's age. One had caramel skin, blue eyes and blue-black hair. He wore brown boots, black pants and an orange biker jacket. The second one was standing in front of them had jeans, boots and a blue jacket, over a white shirt. His skin was burnt almond under his reddish hair. His brown eyes were full of fight. The last one had black skin deep brown hair and two brown eyes. His gray jeans were in his boots his yellow jacket was open at the neck. The boy with the orange jacket lunged at Kayla, aiming for the pendant in her hand identical to Nick's but with a N instead of an E. She quickly dodged and did a drop kick to send the kid on his rear. The one in blue tried the same thing with yellow coming the opposite direction. She vaulted to a fire escape above them. Nick was busy with orange so she was on her own. I gotta improvise. She thought. A sudden thought crossed her mind. She quietly climbed down to the bottom rung of the ladder and hung by her knees. She clipped the necklace on orange and swung back up. Nick took the opening to kick the boy in the stomach. He was grabbed by yellow. He landed on top of Nick holding his arms behind his back. Uh oh. Arms behind his back, Nick stared panicking launching into a panic attack. Kayla watched the three back off while her brother curled into a ball. She landed on her feet, and held her stick out in a ready position. The boy in blue started forward. She thrust the stick into his personal space as a warning. "Stay away," she warned "you don't want to be on the bissnuess end of the staff when I'm holding it. " She looked at her big brother and saw red. She was grabbed by yellow. Blue took her staff so she couldn't try anything funny. The girl was shoved down with her brother. I can't win. They're in better shape than me. She thought. She raised her hands in surrender. Nick's pendant was on the floor. "Who are you, what do you want?" She crumbled. Zare, Ezra and Jai, didn't see a mystery fighter, just a scared girl. "Just the necklace, that's all we wanted." Zare explained. He approached her with caution. She was thin, pale and shaky. "How bad are they?" Jai asked. "Not good. Both are malnourished, a little dehydrated, and are definitely dealing with trauma of some sort." He reported. Ezra looked at the two squinting. He'd seen them somewhere before. He racked his brain only to come up with his siblings. A hand on his shoulder snapped him back. "You okay?" Jai asked. "Yeah. They just remind me of you know. Nick and Kayla." He croaked holding his necklace. He grabbed the girl's staff and bag then turned around. The bag slipped from his hand. Apples, carrots, bread, water gallons of it, slid out. They rolled out. "They're street kids. They were looking for something to sell or trade for food, water and supplies." Ezra told his friends. He packed up the bag and left it by the bag by them. Jai held out her staff, she shrank back. "Go ahead take it." He said with a gentle smile. She gently took it from him and playfully poked him. He ruffled hair, when he turned around to leave a little tug on his right side turned him back around. He saw the girl with a grateful, relieved look. "Thank you." She said. He waved at her. The group went their separate ways.
