The day of the Gathering we were all taken to a huge building made out of bricks. They took us in, and we saw that it was rather fancy on the inside, despite the rough outward appearance. They split is up, then we were washed off, cleaning us from all the blood and grime.
Then we were handed suits and told to change into them. Mine was a black suit with silver feather embroidery around the front. I wore a white button up shirt under it and shiny black shoes that hurt my feet.
When I walked out of my changing room my face flushed a bright red and my wings fanned out awkwardly. I couldn't believe the sight in front of my eyes. Sapphire and Luna were both in suits and were absolutely stunning.
Sapphire had a shimmering light blue tinted suit that looked close to water on a cloudy day. She had a sapphire belt on, with small stones delicately shaped into droplets similar to water. Her hair had product in it making tight neat curls. I hadn't seen her hair like this before. It was much curlier than when she got out of the pond every day.
Luna had a light sage green suit with little pastel floral designs sewn in around the wrist cuffs. Her normal shaggy hair was now straight and neat, shaping her face perfectly. Her little wolf ears were brushed and appeared to have a little glitter on them, making them stand out as she looked around at us. She wore an opal choker with a moon shaped pendant on it, fidgeting with it as she waited.
I tried to get my flustered face under control as I approached them. Then Cobalt walked in. When she saw him, Sapphire burst out in laughter.
“Why are you in a dress?!” She exclaimed between laughs. The dress in question was a deep green similar to his skin. It had a layered skirt that made it fall to the floor delicately. It was an open back dress showing off his pale green scales. He looked very grumpy, even with the blindfold on.
“They say it affords for easier movement for gorgons but I'm convinced every time they do it they just do it because it makes me look more like a girl… More like a normal gorgon.” He hissed the last chunk out under his breath.
Then Me and Cobalt sat down for our hair to be done. I noticed they had another gorgon do Cobalt’s hair, probably because they didn't want a human getting bitten by his snakes.
Our hair was styled slightly to make it look nicer. My hair was put up into an elegant french tuck. I could feel all the pins stabbing at my scalp. They then used a jeweled clip to hold it in place. It had droopy black feathers on the top that stuck a little over my head.
It looked slightly like a depressed peacock.
I gasped though when I noticed something, the sclera of my eye had a faint swirling black color on the edges.
I didn't get to inspect it any closer because we were all forced out of the building and into a car. Thankfully this one had seats.
I couldn’t help but notice Sapphire throwing glares at the people herding us into the car. She waited until we all sat down before she took the last seat. She didn't take her eyes off the people driving the car or their armed guns they held at their waists.
Cobalt had a specialized seat since it was awkward for him to sit properly. He had to curl up but even then his tail spilled onto the floor of the car. The tip of his tail wrapped around Luna's ankle protectively.
I noticed he could sense vibrations slightly when we were in the arena but now he was completely blind due to all the vibrations from the car. His eyes, although they didn't work, moved around nervously under the blindfold making the fabric move slightly.
Luna kept a hand on his shoulder to help ground him with a sweet but worried look on her face. Eventually Cobalt’s head rested on her shoulder, probably trying to keep himself stable as much as possible.
