A hand was on my forehead. “Is it dead?” asked an unfamiliar voice.
“If she isn't then she better get up soon and be interesting.” A male voice droned.
“She will be fine, right?” That voice was so familiar. It couldn't be.
Sapphire? What happened? Where am I?
My eyes felt so heavy but I cracked them open and peered out. I saw Sapphire and a wolf.
“Where am I?” I asked, sitting up. Sapphire looked away. The surrounding area had a small pond in the center. The wall I faced was made of rocks with a small cave. But when I turned around I saw bars.
“I couldn't protect you. But something was in the food we ate I-” Before I knew it the silver wolf was blocking my view.
“She is trying to say you were drugged!” the wolf smiled.
First of all, a talking wolf. Now apparently my uncle drugged me. No it must be a mistake, maybe he just used some kind of rotten food accidentally.
My breath became labored and heavy as I overthank the situation.
“Kiddo, it's fine we were all betrayed by someone.” This must have alerted someone because I was shocked.
I looked over to the rocks and on top of one almost at the top of the cage was someone. They had a long snake tail instead of legs that hung over the side of the boulder they were on. They wore a uniform of some kind and a blindfold.
On top of their head hung a cluster of bright green snakes. When they turned to face me I noticed that half of their head didn't have these snakes.
“Just so you know- No I can't read minds. I just felt your heart speed up and heard a change in your breathing.” he said as he slithered down.
“The name is Cobalt. I'm a gorgon but don't worry I'm blind anyway. No one is turning to stone here. The wolf is our class three Morph, a werewolf named Luna. I'm guessing you two must be class four and five Morphs, right?” He said. Now that he was closer I could see his entire body had a green tint.
“I'm Dove, a harpy.” I said making sure he knew what I was. He made a noise that could only be explained as his amusement of rolling his eyes and looked annoyed.
“I'm blind, not stupid.” he said, getting even closer. He then stormed off.
A girl walked over to me. She had silver hair and ears on her head. On her forehead was a purple moon tattoo, it was mostly covered by her hair. She wore a green top and black baggy pants.
“Im Luna, pleased to meet'cha.” she stuck her hand out. I grasped it and was sent into the most jarring vigorous handshake ever.
She seemed to have infinite energy. “I really hope you last longer than our last teammate. He, well , kinda is dead.” She said it so casually.
“But you are gonna be much better at staying alive hopefully.” she said. She actually looked sad for just a brief moment. “I really miss him.” She muttered, but then looked happy again.
“Um, where are we?” I asked. I could tell wherever we were we all were trapped inside a cage. One that looked unfit to hold humanoid Morphs.
“Oh right we are in Sydney Zoo.” she smiled and gestured at the cage. “Unfortunately we can't get out. The roof prevents you from flying. And we all tried the lock.” she looked at the door with a wistful expression. “Anyway, let me show you around.”
She took me to the pond which was apparently supposed to be our drinking water. But she did reassure me that they installed a filter.
The rocks and cave were supposed to be our sleeping quarters. She told me we should get some rest.
When we entered the cave I saw that Cobolt had made a nest-bed thing out of moss to sleep on. And Sapphire- I assumed she was sleeping in the pool.
I was in a pink swimming suit. I was with my family.
We rented a small house on the beach.
I ran toward the waves and jumped in.
The water was freezing! We played in the water for a bit.
But I was drifting further away from the shore. I saw something swim under me.
I tried to swim back to shore and saw a big crescent like fin heading toward me. I suddenly realized what it was and I started swimming away from the shore and away from the shark.
This made it chase me. Right as it was about to take a chunk out of me, a knife landed between its gills.
It thrashed around for a while then floated silently on the water. The knife looked to be made from shells and coral.
A while after being taken to sanctuary I was exploring near the water of the lake.
I slipped on a rock and four pairs of hands grabbed me trying to pull me under.
Suddenly I was fighting for my life under the water.
It was no use. All I saw was a furry of bubbles and webbed hands dragging me deeper. I was running out of air.
Bubbles escaped my throat in a feeble attempt to escape from the siren's domain.
Just as the least amount of air escaped from my lungs I heard something that sounded like a scream as a pair of hands let me go.
It was followed by another and another until all of my attackers let me go.
I felt a strong pair of arms loop under my shoulder and bring me to the surface. I coughed water out of my lungs.
Sharp stones from the gravel scraped against my skin and my clothes clung to my small form.
I looked over my shoulder and saw a girl with copper skin, webbed fingers, blue eyes and brown curly hair.
“Hey there. My family almost drowned you. Sorry about that.” she smiled.
“I'm Sapphire.”she extended her hand toward me and I took it gladly.
“I hope you're not hurt. Some things fell out of your pockets but come back tomorrow and I'll have them.”
I gasped and jolted upright. When I opened my eyes, however I was still in the dim cave. it was just a memory, another dream. I layed down and closed my eyes. Slowly sleep took over my fatigued body.
