As Christopher had guessed, Isabel was at Reservoir Lounge with her friends. The place was jam-packed and the noise was earsplitting. He crossed the dance floor but before he could reach them, he heard her friend say :

“Don't look back but a really handsome guy is eyeing you at the moment. He has been ever since we arrived half an hour ago.”

He stopped in his tracks and looked in the direction where Isabel's friend was looking. Eight boys were sat around a table, looking heavily drunk and their eyes screaming foul motives. He gritted his teeth at the guy seated in the middle, staring indeed at Isabel.

‘Jealous ?’ - his brain raised eyebrows at him.

He looked away, rolling his hands into fists. ‘I am just concerned as the guys hold ill intentions.’ - he reasoned.

‘Concerned for the enemy's daughter ?” - his brain retorted. ‘Interesting.’

‘Oh shut it!’ - he scolded his brain.

“I knowwww... but I can't help it, georgy. I. Love. Him. And I know he, at least, likes me. The thing that is disturbing me is his hesitation near me. It's making me wonder does he not find me attractive ?”

Isabel's voice pulled his focus back on her. He surmised she was talking about him and the sadness on her face didn't settle well with him.

“That can't be the case. Cindy spoke straight facts that you were the hottest girl in the university, Bella. You are very attractive and if you had not been moping over Christopher, you would have noticed how many guys are currently staring at you.”

Christopher bit the inside of his cheek. Why were her friends so hellbent on playing cupid between her and the guys behind them ?!

Isabel didn't look a least bit interested and sighed. “Maybe I'm not his type then...”

Christopher felt the ache in his chest again. She had got it all wrong. He saw her hopping off the stool and without thinking, his feet moved to stop her. His hand grabbed a hold of her wrist and pulled her back. She gasped as she collided with him and their eyes met.

Everything around him muted. He felt as if the people around him were statued and only he and Isabel were in motion. Her eyes were so expressive in that moment, he was blown away. She was surprised, happy, and confused all at once. But there were insecurities, disbelief and dread as well which had the ache in his chest sharpening.

“Christopher...” - Isabel breathed his name in wonder. Not believing in his presence.

“I have just came and you are leaving ? Not fair.” - he said playfully.

“But I didn't expect you'd come as you had refused.” - she said and he didn't miss the note of complain in her voice.

“I thought to surprise you.”

Well, that was a lie. Honestly, he initially hadn't plan to come for the same reason of staying away from her because being in her proximity and maintain distance was easier said than done. She was gorgeous. Even in that moment, standing in his arms wearing red mock wrap sequin top over high-waisted black leather jeans, she was looking mesmerizing. Her lips as red as cherries adding fuel.

And THAT was why he maintained distance from her because he, despite the fact that she was his arch nemesis' daughter, accepted she was not at fault. A part of his mind already tried to make him feel guilty and he didn't want his brain to succeed by getting intimate with her.

“Surprise ?” - she repeated, her lips forming a curve as they smiled.

His hands, that were holding her waist, gave her a push towards him, ending any possible distance between them.
