It had only been two days since Taehyung moved into the dorm, but the silence in the room already felt heavy. His new roommate, Jungkook, was barely there in spirit. Sure, they shared a space, but Jungkook seemed like a shadow—always present, but never truly seen or heard. Taehyung had made casual attempts at small talk, introducing himself with his usual warmth, but Jungkook only offered a polite nod or a soft "hello" in response before retreating back into his own world.

For the first couple of days, Taehyung thought Jungkook was just shy. He assumed it was the natural awkwardness that came with sharing a space with a stranger. But as the days turned into weeks, Taehyung realized that it wasn't just shyness; there was something deeper, something quieter, almost haunting about Jungkook's behavior.

He noticed that Jungkook never spoke on the phone, not even once. In the age of endless phone calls, video chats, and texts, Jungkook was eerily disconnected. It struck Taehyung as odd, because even the most introverted people had someone to talk to—family, friends, anyone. But Jungkook? He didn't. Taehyung would occasionally hear the soft buzz of a message notification from Jungkook's phone, but it was always ignored. The only time Jungkook ever interacted with others was during brief, uncomfortable visits from classmates who would come over to study.

The loneliness radiating off Jungkook was palpable. He kept to himself, speaking so little that sometimes Taehyung didn't hear his voice for days at a time. The only sounds Jungkook made were the quiet rustle of pages turning as he studied or the soft shuffle of his feet as he moved through the room. Occasionally, Taehyung would catch a glimpse of Jungkook sitting at his desk, staring blankly at the wall, completely motionless for what felt like hours. Taehyung found himself watching, almost worried that Jungkook had slipped away into some distant corner of his mind where no one could reach him.

It wasn't just the silence that concerned Taehyung. Jungkook's eating habits were erratic. Often, Taehyung would notice that Jungkook skipped meals entirely, or he would pick at his food without actually eating. Taehyung had to remind him constantly to eat something, pushing plates toward him with a gentle, "Hey, you should eat this before it gets cold." Jungkook would nod and force a small smile, but Taehyung wasn't convinced he was taking care of himself.

Then there were the tremors. Taehyung first noticed them one evening when they were both studying at their desks. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Jungkook's hand shaking, his fingers trembling uncontrollably as he tried to hold his pen steady. He pressed his other hand over it, as if trying to hide it from view, but Taehyung saw. He pretended not to notice, unsure of how to approach it, but the image of Jungkook's shaking hand stuck with him long after.
