School started the next week and Sadie was with a lot of different teachers but luckily had some with Ryan and Maddy.

Sadie had made the volleyball team while the other few did not. Needless to say, that upset them. They were the type to constantly break rules and do what they could to make the staff miserable.

"Alright. That's it guys. You guys have a little bit of free time, just keep it down," Ryan said as he went back to the desk. The lesson was over and he was the one teacher who didn't mind a little free time.

It was only a week into school and every teacher was still learning their class so Ryan did his best to make it fun.

"Can I go to the restroom?" Sadie asked, knocking on his desk.

"You know you don't have to ask Sadie," he chuckled, "Just take the pass and sign out,"

"Mom always made me," she shrugged, laughing a little bit.

"Noted," he smiled, "Make sure you sign out and back in,"

"Okay," she nodded and did as he said, signing the paper and heading for the bathroom with the pass.

Not even 2 minutes later, the fire alarm started blaring.

"Oh come on? A drill?" She sighed, just trying to take a moment to breathe before she went back to class. She knew she had to go though.

What she didn't know was that it was an actual fire, in the boy's bathroom next to the one she was in.

She felt the door and pushed it open, trying to find any way out but everywhere she looked was simply smoke. She didn't know which way was up or which way was down.

She felt trapped. And honestly, she was.

Outside, everyone was taking attendance and making sure they had all the proper papers and the right numbers of students in their classes.

"I'm missing one," Ryan yelled, getting the principal's attention.

"Who is it?" The principal asked as he came over.

"Sadie Elliott,"

"Anyone else have anyone missing?" The principal called to the large crowd. "Only one?"

"Ryan, where's my kid?" Chase asked, coming over since their classes were so close.

"She went to the bathroom. I haven't seen her. They're trying to find her," Ryan told him, pointing at the principal who was going around and asking teachers if they had Sadie.

"I'm not waiting. Where did she last go?"

"Are you crazy man? You can't go in there. She could be out here," Ryan tried to calm his best friend but to no avail.

"I'm going. That's my daughter," Chase said as he'd already made up his mind.

"Don't be stupid chase,"

"What if it was Kollyn?" Chase asked, putting Ryan right into his shoes.

"Let's go," he nodded, knowing if Chase was going in, he wasn't going in alone. He'd do the exact same thing for his little girl.

"You guys stay right here," Chase warned, looking at all the students in front of him.

"What are you gonna do?" One of the older boys asked, watching as both of their teachers ran into the school.

Obviously, their students figured it out.

Inside the building, the fire alarm kept blaring while Ryan and Chase looked for Sadie.

"SADIE?!" Chase yelled as loud as he could before coughing. "SADIE WHERE ARE YOU?!"

When they got no answer, they kept going towards the floor they last knew Sadie was on.

"She went to this one I think," Ryan said as they made it to the bathroom closest to his classroom.

"SADIE?!" Chase yelled as he pounded on the door.

"DAD!" Sadie yelled, trying to open the door.

With Chase and Ryan's help, she got it open and was able to get to both of them.

"Come on. Let's get out of here," Chase said, as all 3 of them started heading out of the school.

Once they were out, Chase immediately took Sadie to the paramedics, not caring about himself. She was coughing hard and having trouble breathing in the fresh air as soon as they got outside.

"Just breathe honey," the female medic told Sadie as she quickly put the oxygen mask on her.

Sadie coughed as she tried to take it off, feeling claustrophobic as soon as it was wrapped around her head.

"No no no," Chase told her, holding it on her face while she coughed, "It's helping you,"

"Daddy no," she coughed, easily breaking Chase's heart as she tried to take it off again.

"Honey, you have to. It's helping. Just relax," he told her, hating to hold it on her face but knowing it was helping. "It's okay. I'm right here,"

Sadie started to calm down, grabbing her father's hand as he let go of the oxygen mask.

"I'm gonna go find your mom," he told her, but Sadie just held on to his hand tighter.

"I'll go find her," Ryan told them, leaving them behind to search for Kaycee.

"Mom's coming okay? Just relax and breathe. Leave it on,"

Sadie nodded, coughing as she did but she was already feeling better.

"Sadie!" Kaycee shouted as she ran up to the ambulance with Ryan close behind. "Are you okay honey?"

"She's alright ma'am. Just some smoke inhalation," the paramedic told her.

"Thank you so much," she nodded and then turned to chase, "Are you insane?!"

"What?" He asked, looking at her confused.

"You ran into a burning building!" She yelled, "And you took Ryan with you?!"

"Yeah. I went in for our kid!"

"We will have this conversation later. When she's comfortable and taken care of,"

"I think mamas mad at me," Chase said as he turned to Sadie.

All Sadie could do was nod.
