After school ended the next day, Chase took Sadie to physical therapy while Kaycee took Adeline home.
"Alright, kid. Listen to me," Chase said as he drove to the physical therapist's office.
"Mhm?" Sadie asked, putting her phone in the cup holder so Chase had her attention.
"Okay. This is not going to feel good. They're meant to work your leg and get some strength back into it. We're gonna work on stairs so you can get back up to your room and we'll go from there. Sound good?"
"Sounds good to me," she nodded, mentally preparing herself as Chase pulled into the office parking lot.
He checked her in and sat in the waiting room with her, waiting until they called her name.
"Hey Sadie," Ellie, the physical therapist, smiled as she came out to the waiting area.
"Hi, Ellie,"
"Anything we want to work on specifically tonight?" She asked, looking between Chase and Sadie.
"Stairs," Sadie nodded before explaining a little bit, "I've been sleeping downstairs so I don't have to deal with them but I really want to go back to my bedroom so definitely stairs,"
"Alright. That sounds like a good idea. You all ready to go?"
"Yep," she nodded, "See you in a bit pops,"
"Be good," he nodded, scrolling through his phone while Sadie went with her physical therapist. He texted Kaycee that Sadie seemed to be in a good mood when she went with Ellie and that he hoped they'd work on the steps.
Ellie worked with Sadie on the steps for the whole hour of therapy, smiling when she saw the teen with a smile on her face.
"How's it feel?" Ellie asked her as she finished with the last set.
"Good," she nodded, "Hurts a little but I expected that,"
"Alright. That's it, Sadie. Good job,"
"Thank you," she smiled, heading to the front with Ellie as their appointment ended.
"Hey. How'd it go?" Chase asked, looking up from his phone.
"It was good. The stairs are not that fun," she sighed, "It's starting to hurt,"
"Go home. Ice it, take a few Tylenol, and keep it elevated. Sound good?" Ellie said, saying her goodbyes before she grabbed her next patient.
"Alright, kiddo. Let's go," Chase said, standing up and heading out to the car with her. "How'd it actually go?"
"It was okay. My knee really hurts but I think I should stay downstairs until it gets a little stronger," She shrugged, getting in the truck and buckling her seatbelt.
"Well, we can wait a little longer. Maybe a few more sessions and you can go upstairs. And mom and I can help if you want to walk or work on the steps. Especially with it getting nicer out. We can take Addie to the park and you can walk around there," he suggested, driving the truck toward home.
"I'm okay with that. Whatever's gonna get this leg better," she shrugged, looking out the window before picking up her phone.
"Then we will do that. But tonight you need to rest it, elevate it, and ice it,"
"Yes sir," she said as she saluted him and got her stuff together as they were pulling into the driveway.
"Alright. Let's go,"
She nodded and carefully lowered herself out of the truck before walking as normally as she could into the house.
"Kayc! We're home!" Chase called as he shut the door.
"Living room!" She called back, playing with Adeline on the floor, "How'd therapy go?"
"Okay," Sadie nodded, "I don't think I'm ready to go upstairs yet,"
"We'll give it a few more weeks,"
Sadie nodded and went to the dining room as the oven timer sounded, sitting at the table with the rest of her family.
"So. I talked with a social worker today and got some very important papers that we all need to sign," Kaycee smiled, sitting at the table after she and Chase brought out their dinner.
"Are they the adoption papers?" Sadie asked, smiling at both of her parents.
"They might be," she nodded, winking at Sadie.
"I'm so excited," she grinned, "I just wish Jess was here,"
"She is honey. She's always with you," Kaycee nodded, "And she'll be at the adoption finalization,"
"Sometimes I think she did this," Sadie said as she looked at her dinner. She thought they would maybe think she was crazy.
"In what way?" Chase asked, genuinely wondering what she meant.
"She knew the problems I had with her. She knew everything. She was pushing me to get some help from you or Maddy. After she was gone, I didn't have that constant voice in my ear asking if I had talked to you or not. And then after I talked to you, I got taken from that woman, I came here and everything fell into place," the teen shrugged, looking between Kaycee and Chase.
"I'm really happy you're here Sadie," Kaycee nodded, reaching across the table to squeeze her hand. "You're always going to be a part of our family,"
"I can't wait to have the same last name. I've been wanting to get rid of the name Davis my whole life," she laughed, "When do we learn the court date?"
"We have to sign the papers and get them to the social worker and we will go from there," she said as she started eating her dinner.
"I literally can't wait until that day comes,"
"We can't either"
