"Naoki! Naokiiii!!"
Vivian comes running towards me,sketchbook in hand.
"Vi? Whatsup-"
She leaps into my arms and I catch her.
"Woah," I chuckle.
"What is it,vi?"
She flashes her sketchbook at me.
"It's you!"
I blink. It was a stick figure.
I mean,she was still young, after all.
I set her down.
That was...unique for her age.
"Um...that's,uh...that's me?"
Her face falls.
"...you don't like it...?"
Oh God. The puppy eyes.
She sniffles and I kneel down,smiling softly.
"No,vi. I love it. I'll go hang it in my room."
She lights up,hugging me and I smile softly.
Ise comes down and raises his brows at the paper.
"What's that?"
I show him.
"A portrait of me."
He chokes,holding in laughter.
"T-thats you???"
I hit him and he coughs.
"Vivian drew it for me..." I say through gritted teeth.
Ise regains his composure.
"I mean,uh,it's so pretty. Really nice. Looks just like you,nao."
Chiaki jogs down the stairs after ise.
He takes one glance at the paper.
Chiaki bursts out laughing and ise loses it,hitting chiaki between laughs.
"Sh-shutup chiaki. You're making it worse!"
Vivian eyebrows furrow to anger.
I noticed it beginning to sprinkle outside.
"Uh...guys?" I start.
They're a mess,trying not to laugh again.
Vivian growls in anger and it thunders loud,ripping them apart.
"Naoki thinks it's pretty!"
She pouts,snapping her head at me.
"Right,nao?"
I nod instantly,glaring at them.
"It's absolutely STUNNING,right guys?"
They nod quickly and she grins in satisfaction,hugging me before slipping out the front door.
But I knew that wouldn't last.
Her hugs. Her turning to me when she was upset.
Her always calling my name.
I hated the thought that I'll be forgotten soon,replaced by some kid.
I didn't love meiori.
I loved Vivian.
I always will.
All I could do was help her grow.
Sorta like a parent; when she leaves the nest,id have to let her go.
They burst out laughing again,grabbing the paper.
"Hi! My name's Naoki! I gotta stick-dick!" They mock,laughing.
I snatch the paper,heading upstairs.
Was it so selfish to want Vivian to myself?
