"Just set up a profile on Tinder and start swiping." Sally peered at me over her glasses, a hint of impatience in her voice.
I hesitated. Amongst the three of us, I was the only single one left. I had confessed to them earlier that I loved women, and ever since, Sally had been on my back, pushing me to try dating apps. But something about it felt off. Singapore was so small—what if people recognized me?
"Why are you so hesitant about it?" she asked, raising an eyebrow.
"I just don't want to be seen. You know how this place is. Word travels fast," I replied, half-joking, half-serious.
She rolled her eyes dramatically. "Just set it up already," she repeated with a sigh, as if it were the simplest thing in the world.
We finished our drinks, the conversation trailing off into lighter topics. But that thought stuck with me as I went home. A few days passed, and the idea kept creeping back. Eventually, late one evening, with more nerves than excitement, I finally caved. I set up my Tinder profile and started swiping.
It felt like opening a door I wasn't sure I was ready to walk through.
