Over the next few weeks, our texting turned into nightly video calls. But as time went on, I realized we didn't have much in common. Our conversations often drifted back to sex, which, in hindsight, was a sign that something was off. If all we could talk about was sex, maybe we weren't truly compatible.
One night, she asked me something unexpected: "What are your values?"
It caught me off guard. No one had ever asked me that before.
"What do you mean?" I asked.
She elaborated, asking if I saw earning money as my number one priority. I said yes—money was essential to me, and I believed that in order to help the environment and people, I needed to have money myself.
She looked disappointed and said, "I want to be with someone who prioritizes helping the people and environment over money."
She kept reiterating that we had different values, and though I tried to argue that it didn't make sense, she stood firm.
I was hurt. I removed her from my Instagram because I wanted to forget, but somehow, she would still watch my stories, despite not following me. Each time, I convinced myself that it was a sign—that maybe she wanted to be with me still. So, I reached out to her. But every time, her response was the same: she didn't see a future with me. Her stance never wavered, and that remained steadfast throughout the time we interacted.
For the next three months, she continued watching my stories, even though we weren't following each other. Every time I saw her name pop up, I took it as a sign that maybe she had changed her mind. I'd reach out, hoping things had shifted. But each time, she reiterated that we weren't compatible, that our values didn't align. It upset me, sparking a cycle of frustration that led to me blocking and unblocking her over and over.
