I met Rose on Bumble BFF when I wasn't looking for anything serious—just someone to hang out with, grab a meal, and maybe chat about random things. She mentioned early on that she was bicurious, but I didn't think much of it. We started meeting up for dinners and casual meet-ups, and at first, things seemed fine. But there was this small thing that kept bothering me—after every meal, she'd smile and say, *"I'll pay you back,"* but she never did. Every single time, she would ask me to pay first, promising she'd send me the money later, but somehow, it never happened.
I didn't want to push it, even though it started to grate on me. I kept wondering when, if ever, she'd actually follow through. And every time I thought about saying something, she'd complain about being broke. She'd go on about how all her money was tied up in Bitcoin, so one day, I asked her, *"Are you really that broke?"*
She shrugged and said, *"Yeah, I threw all my money into Bitcoin, and it's stuck there now."*
I was surprised. How could someone who worked in finance be this broke? But I let it go, even as my annoyance grew. The pattern was forming, and I could feel the weight of it in every expensive dinner check I picked up, wondering why I kept letting it happen.
