We made our way to the Thai restaurant she had chosen. As I sat across from her, a sudden thought crept into my mind: *She's not the one.* I tried to shake it off—after all, I had flown all the way to Paris just to see her. But that quiet voice in my head wouldn't go away.
Our meals arrived, and we tried to dig deeper into getting to know each other. But there was this awkwardness that lingered, a kind of tension that I couldn't shake. We finished our meal and headed outside, where she tried to navigate back to her place. As we waited, I wrapped my arm around her waist and rested my head on her shoulder. My heart pounded with anticipation, but she didn't push me away.
We eventually arrived at her apartment, and she led me to her room, casually mentioning that her flatmates would be out all day, so we had the place to ourselves. I set my backpack down and took off my jacket. I asked where to hang it, and she gestured for me to give it to her. As she turned to hang it up, we locked eyes and started kissing—a real French kiss, from a real French woman, in Paris. It was surreal, and it gave me an unexpected thrill.
We were all over each other that afternoon, but the first round of sex was lackluster, as it often is when I'm with someone new. Still, the excitement of the moment carried us through.
As night fell, we went out to dinner at her favorite restaurant. I had some of the best meat I'd ever tasted, though, considering it was my first time in Paris, anything decent would've easily taken the top spot.
After dinner, we stopped by a grocery store to pick up some water. I grabbed a bottle labeled "Ory," and she laughed, joking that it was her family brand since her surname was Ory. I chuckled at the thought.
Back at her flat, things were better the second time around. We spent the night cuddling, and she rubbed her nose against mine in a way that stirred something inside me—an intimacy I hadn't felt in a long time.
