Only a few weeks after (Y/N) had met Devon, already it seemed as if he were coming over every day to hang out with her and Katherine, for dinner, to take them places, anything. She didn't entirely mind it as he was always sweet and caring—more so, he was considerate, always listening to her whenever she was talking whilst also never interrupting her nor belittling what she had said. However, at the same time, she did sometimes miss how it was when it was just her and her mother.

But, she wouldn't allow any type of such selfish thoughts, having already seen first hand multiple times how happy Devon made Katherine.

Therefore, she kept quiet.

She liked Devon.

There was no reason not to.

So, there was no reason why she would ever mind having him around.

Now, as she sleepily stumbled out of her room, rubbing her eyes, she was surprised to find Devon about to knock on her door from the way his fist was raised. She hadn't expected him to be over so early in the morning, but when taking in his casual appearance—as in, he wasn't donning a suit as he usually was—she realized that he had come over later after she had already gone to bed to stay the night.

"Good morning," Devon smiled as he let his hand drop to his side, easily smoothening out his slightly startled expression as he glanced over her rumpled sleep clothes, his eyes lingering on her bare shoulder before meeting her gaze. "I was just about to wake you for breakfast. Katherine would have come up and get you herself, but she's still cooking. I see that you just woke up, huh?"

"Well..." (Y/N) yawned into her hand, slightly turning away from him as she did. "It is the weekend. Might as well sleep in."

"As you should," Devon gave a slight nod. "Well, when you're ready, do come down. Breakfast should be done in about ten, fifteen minutes."

"Thanks," she smiled.

"Of course," he hummed as he gave her one last smile of his own before turning to descend the stairs back towards the kitchen, leaving her to her own devices of getting ready.

As Devon walked through the living room towards the kitchen, he couldn't help but be amused upon his mind taking him back to the moment when (Y/N) had first opened her door. He found her to be absolutely adorable when she was just waking up, from the tired look in her eyes to the way her hair was messed up, to how her baggy clothes hung off of her frame. It was nothing but endearing to him, and already he knew he would do anything to protect the type of innocence he saw in her.

"Is (Y/N) awake?" Katherine asked from where she was sliding a scramble of eggs onto three waiting plates, glancing up at him as she did so.

"Yes," Devon nodded. "She'll be down shortly."

"Perfect, I'm just about done," Katherine hummed as she continued working around the kitchen.

"Need anymore help?"

"Um... yes, could you set the table, please?"

"Of course."

"Thanks, honey."

Placing down mats on the table before doing the same with napkins and forks, along with setting down three cups of orange juice, Devon glanced towards the stairs from time to time to see if (Y/N) had come down yet. Over the course of just a few weeks, he realized he had grown strangely attached to her, more so than he thought he would. When Katherine had suggested he meet her daughter, he thought nothing of it as he initially viewed (Y/N) as merely an extension of her mother.

Yet, that view shifted quickly.

After getting to know (Y/N), he could see that she was someone who was shy initially, yet became talkative once she became comfortable with someone. Obviously, he made sure she was comfortable with him, allowing her to flourish before him in a way he hadn't expected. When it was just the two of them alone sometimes, it had initially been awkward, but now Devon looked forward to their conversations. The intellect and pure curiosity she displayed each time she opened her mouth never failed to astound him, along with her seemingly never ending kindness.

He truly was fond of her.

Therefore, when he noticed (Y/N) had finally descended the stairs, he smiled. When she noticed the look, she smiled back.

"Oh, (Y/N), perfect timing!" Katherine exclaimed as she was just finishing placing the last plate on the table. "Come on, sit down. Breakfast is served!" She took a seat as (Y/N) and Devon did the same, continuing with, "I tried a new recipe this time since this is our first breakfast with Devon, so I hope you both like it."

"Wow, I'm impressed mom, it looks delicious," (Y/N) began as she eagerly picked up her fork and took a bite, her eyes widening whilst she chewed. "And it tastes delicious, too! What'd you add to these eggs, mom? This is great!"

Devon, amused by (Y/N)'s enthusiasm, took a bite as well, humming in pleasant surprise as he uttered, "(Y/N) isn't wrong, Katherine. This is delicious."

"Thanks, you two," Katherine glowed with happiness at their compliments. "I wanted to make something special for us, so I'm glad you like it."

"I love it," Devon glanced at her.

"Me, too!" (Y/N) was quick to pipe up.

Katherine chuckled softly at the twos' antics, however it was clear she was radiating with pride at being able to do something nice for two of the most important people in her life. Devon, noticing this, was pleased that he had found someone with such a great quality of character. He then glanced at (Y/N), who was happily chatting with her mom about the new recipe, finding himself equally as pleased that his woman's daughter was also someone whom he approved of.

He closed his eyes as he took a bite of eggs, appreciating the flavors.

Well...

I could get used to this.

I'll have to ask them to move in with me soon.

There's no doubt that I should.
