"Hey, (Y/N)... when's your birthday?" Dante asked one Friday morning before AP Literature, a small, crooked smile on his lips that (Y/N)'s heart couldn't help but flutter at.

"Oh, it's (birthday)," (Y/N) answered with a shrug. "It already passed."

"What?" He seemed disappointed as his eyes widened, however soon enough his disposition relaxing. "Aw, man. I was hoping we could celebrate or something. Anyways, how does it feel to be an adult, now? Also, was that new car of yours a gift from your mom's boyfriend, then?"

"Sorry," she chuckled, giving him a small smile. "But, it does feel nice. I mean, at least now I can vote. As for the car, yeah. It was a gift from Devon. It's honestly kind of surprising..."

"Totally," he nodded. "Not just any person buys their partner's kid a new car."

"Yeah, true..."

"I mean, how wealthy is he?"

"What do you mean?" (Y/N) tilted her head, slightly confused at the question.

"That car of yours cost over a hundred thousand dollars," Dante pointed out, watching in amusement as her eyes widened to the size of saucers, obviously having not realized that at all. "Let me reiterate: not just any person buys their partner's kid a one hundred thousand dollar plus car for their birthday just because they wanted to. They only do that if they can. Easily. He must really be fond of you."

"Wow..." she could merely exclaim as she glanced away. "I mean, I knew Audis were expensive, but that expensive...? No."

"Hey, at least it means he cares."

(Y/N) chuckled at that, giving a small nod.

Dante gazed at her for a moment longer before his expression changed as if something had just dawned on him, quickly bending down from his seat to rifle through his backpack and produce a small bag. Giving a sheepish smile, he extended the bag out to her, and with a surprised blink, she graciously accepted. It hadn't occurred to her that he might've bought a gift for her, but the simple fact that he thought about her enough to go out of his way and procure something for her that she might like was enough to leave her heart skittering.

It was such a strange feeling, and she realized how often it was starting to happen around Dante.

"Can I... open it?" She started with a small grin.
