*three years later—part one*
"Can you buy me these?" The eleven-year-old asked, interrupting his aunt from packing with Lucy and Drea.
Courtney faced Jahi, gaze instantly reverting to his cell phone showing the newly released Air Jordan's. She freed her natural curls, framing her face, and wearing a thin strap comfortable dress. "No hello? Straight in 'buy me these'?"
"Hello Luce. Hello Drea. Can you get me these?" he immediately went back to his task at hand.
The women chuckled, shaking their heads.
"How do you just assume I got money?"
"You got three GRAMMYs; you got money." Jahi stated, sitting beside his fav aunt. "Come on, please? They got them in every size. We can get Bam some."
"They're new, Jah. Most stores don't immediately sell the new ones."
"But P&K do."
"P&K?" Courtney repeated, confusion covering her face.
"Piks & Kicks." Drea responded, familiar with the name. "That's that new sneaker store out in Long Beach. Opened like two years ago I think."
"And you want me to drive all the way to Long—get out my face."
"Noo, Aunty," Jahi cackled. "They gotta P&K on Melrose. It opened a few days ago. You did say you was gonna have a boy's day with me, JJ, and Bam. Today's the day. Plus you bouta leave in the morning. Where you going?"
"New York City for a parade. I did say that huh?" Courtney asked, her face scrunching playfully.
"You did." Lucy chimes in, "I was sitting right there."
"Thank you Luce." Jahi grinned. "You know if mama wasn't overseas on that tour I would've asked her. I'd ask my dad but he's in Las Vegas."
"Give me a hour. If you have Bam ready by then, we'll go."
