Chapter 46

As the sun set , the edges of few strips of clouds turned shimmering gold.

Inside the bedroom , Ishan cradled Ivan's sleeping form near his chest . The child was sleeping peacefully , sometimes squirmed in his sleep and tried to hug Ishan with his little hands . Seemed like Ivan's subconscious mind got a hunch that his days with his Mumma was about to be end.

Ishan's chest was heaving with suppressed sobs. In the fear of waking Ivan up , Ishan covered his mouth with his palm to suppress the sound of his sob.

We all know , a child has a special soul-to-soul connection with their mother. Ishan may not be his biological mother but the connection between them could surpass any connection Ivan till has with anyone , even  with his own father. The soul of the sleeping child sensed his Mumma was going through some pain. Ivan's chest trembled , a whimper left his mouth. Ishan gently pressed his cheek on Ivan's forehead and patted him to sleep.

Tears welled up, burning his eyes as he gazed at Ivan's innocent face.

Today marked the last day of waiting ; tomorrow would bring the first hearing. Last few days went like a dream ; he , Ivan and Shubman saturated themselves with the happiest moments of their togetherness. Ishan tried his best to show his happiness infront of his child who knew nothing about the upcoming terrible storm . But he couldn't just help himself , Ishan's anxiety escalated as the custody hearing drew near.

In 24 hours, their world might shatter. The thought of losing Ivan forever sliced through Ishan like a knife.

How could the law take his child away?

His heart clenched, as if physically torn apart.
Tears streamed down, soaking the pillow.

Ishan's mind reeled with nightmares of Eshana's mistreatment. Fear, anxiety, and desperation swirled within him. His heart trembled just thinking about the possibilities of Eshana's ignorance and harsh treatment towards his child. Ivan's cry resonated inside his mind , things got unbearable for him.

"Please God , don't let them take him away from me,"

Ishan whispered, voice cracking. He kissed Ivan's tiny hands, his lips trembling. Ishan's body shook with silent sobs.

The weight of uncertainty crushed him. Time ticked away, each passing moment precious.

Shubman's lawyers arrived, discussing strategies in hushed tones. Distant rustling of papers and their chattering seemed a world away , Ishan kissed the forehead of Ivan and dragged his own tired body towards the living room.

Shubman was discussing legal matters of this case with his lawyers. A frown remained still between his brows. Ishan silently slumped down beside him . Shubman wrapped a hand around his shoulder and caressed it gently.

" Everything is gonna be fine. I'm here with you , Baby."

Shubman whispered. Ishan's eyes shimmered with tears , he nodded and took a deep breath to suppress it.

One lawyer examined the case file and turned his gaze towards Shubman.

" Mr Gill , We're 90% certain Eshana won't get sole custody," He assured.

"But we can't guarantee you'll get sole custody either," he also added.

Ishan's heart trembled. Shubman was silent as he was thinking about something. After a moment of silence , he decided to ask ,

"What factors could make her lose the case? Is there any ? "

The lawyers started discussing among them. Ishan felt a warm embrace around his palm. He raised his eyes to look at his husband. Shubman gave him small assuring smile.
