Twen's POV

Liam and I trail behind the Alpha, Beta, and trackers, a safe distance away to avoid being noticed. Instead of going toward the direction they came from, they walk around the other side of the packhouse. We circled its perimeter and followed them until the training grounds were visible. To avoid being seen, we let the distance between us widen as there weren't many things to hide behind and then continued when that distance was met.

As we continued our pursuit, taking cover behind anything that could shield us, the events of only moments ago replayed in my mind. A sense of nauseousness welled up inside me.

"What is it? Who are they?" I asked him, confused and curious by his reaction.

"It's the trackers...and...they have a rogue with them."

My entire body goes cold upon hearing his words. A chill goes up my spine that quickens my heartbeat. I turn my head slowly in an attempt to catch a glimpse, but as I do, my mouth goes dry with fear. I am torn between wanting to identify the rogue and not wanting to.

"Are you okay, Twen?" Liam asked, concern evident in his voice. "You look pale. Maybe we should go." He started to stand up, but I grabbed his arm and held him back. "I need to see," I insisted.

He hesitated before responding, "I-I don't think that's a good idea. Remember what happened last time?"

I shook my head, "What happened last time won't happen again."

"Even so, you're clearly afraid," he said in a soft whisper as he took hold of my hand. "Your face has lost its color, your body trembles, and you're cold to the touch. Let me help you calm down first, and if you still wish to see the rogue, I will take you to them myself."

I let out a deep breath and nodded in agreement. Sitting on the ground, leaning against the porch wall, I focused on taking slow, calming breaths to steady my nerves. Liam kept hold of my hand, his thumb gently rubbing over it and sending tingles through my body. The sensation helped me relax until I noticed the trackers, Alpha, Beta, and the rogue, were no longer in sight. "W-Where did they go!?" I questioned as I abruptly stood from the ground.

"We have to follow them!" I exclaimed desperately. Liam placed his hands on my shoulders and turned me around to face him. "Twen, relax," he whispered soothingly. "I know where they're going, and I think you do too. Do you still want to go?"

The cellars.

My brows furrowed as I thought of that dark place that reminded me of the bad place. I took a deep breath and met Liam's gaze, my determination evident in my eyes. His expression softened with concern, but his worry faded when our eyes connected, my resolve reaching him.

"Okay, let's go." he sighed.

***

We neared the familiar surroundings as we walked past the training grounds and into the woods. Soon, we came upon the same small building we had encountered last time. When it came into view, the Beta and trackers were arriving. We hid behind a tree and some bushes and peered at them as they walked into the cellars.

"How will we get through the patrol?" I asked him.

"We won't. They'll let us through," he assured me.

"Oh, will they?"

I jumped at the unexpected voice. The hairs on my body stood tall, startled by the person who appeared behind us. I quickly turned around, and there stood the Alpha with his arms crossed and a stern expression on his face as he looked down at us. My heart skipped a beat as I nervously swallowed. I glanced at Liam and could tell he had a similar reaction. He cleared his throat and stood up from where he was sitting on the ground, and I followed suit, getting to my feet as well.
