Liam's POV

I was caught off guard. All I could do was stare at him in surprise. He was fidgeting and was moving his gaze from me to the ground. He had never asked me for anything in the two weeks he's been here, and now he was asking for my help. I finally opened my mouth after standing there like an idiot.

"Y-Yes, I'll help you with anything."

Twen exhaled as if he was holding his breath and seemed to have relaxed as if a weight had been lifted from his shoulders. Was this what he wanted to tell me all those times he looked like he was going to say something?

"What do you need?" My heart was beating fast; I was excited and happy he'd taken the initiative to talk to me and ask me something.

I could hear Twen gulp before answering my question. "The bad place."

My brows furrowed at the mention of the place that hurt him. I could feel the mood immediately change.

"Mm...the bad place scary, many bad men, bad men like you...Alphas. I...hurt...every day." Twen's voice broke as he said that last bit. His body was trembling, and I could see tears falling down his cheeks; there was immense pain in his expression. All I could do was stand there and listen. It was hard to keep myself and my wolf in place. My hands were in fists, and a knot in my throat made it hard to swallow.

I wanted to run and hold him in my arms, to comfort him and assure him that he was safe and would never have to suffer again.

"I stay in dark room, forever, never outside, never walk. But...I not alone...." Twen smiled, but it was a smile full of sorrow. The tears were now streaming down his cheeks to his throat. "Jamie...with...me," His lips trembled before he cried, wailing in his grief. My nails dug into my hands as I watched my mate in agony. He looked...broken. At that moment I forgot about everything and ran to him. I took him into my arms and gave him all the comfort I could. He raised his shaking arms, and instead of pushing me away, he held on to me, crying on my chest.

"You...help...me. Help...me. Kids...in...bad place. Jamie's...kids...in...bad place. Help...save." I flinched after hearing what he had said; there were others just like him.

"Please...," he whispered.

"Yes, I'll help you, and I'll help them, I promi...." Before I could finish my sentence, Twen's body suddenly got heavy. I lifted him up; his arms and legs had gone limp, and his head hung to the side.

"Twen? TWEN!" He's unconscious, I shake him to wake him up, but nothing happens. I hold him up with one hand and place the other on his forehead. He's burning up. I pick up his legs and carry him. I run as fast as possible to the medical center and mind-link Rita, letting her know of the situation.

I ran the same path we took to reach the training grounds and passed many pack members who stared at me in surprise. I arrived at the medical center in mere minutes. I walked through the sliding doors, and Rita was waiting for me.

"What happened!?" Asks Rita as she leads me to an empty room.

"I don't know, we were talking, and then he suddenly passed out. He's burning hot." We enter a room, and I place him on a bed. Rita moves to his side and quickly takes his vitals.

"What were you doing?"

"We went on a walk, and then we started talking."

"Did he seem any different or strange to you?"

"He was crying and was very affected by our conversation. Watching him like that, I...went and hugged him."

"Do you think me touching him had something to do with it?"
