A sudden thud struck my head, knocking me to the ground. Thank God for my fast reflexes—I managed to turn my head just in time, or I'd have scraped my face clean off.
"This is your last warning. Don't fool around with me," Little Vixen growled unevenly. The smirk tugged at my lips—the one she absolutely hated. Her face twisted with irritation.
"Understood?" she pressed harder against my head, her weight forcing me further into the dirt.
"Yes, ma'am," I replied, gently pushing her hand aside.
"But I have to confess, fooling around is the last thing on my mind right now," I said, watching her face shift through another layer of emotion as she hovered over me.
"That sounded like a love confession," she scoffed. "And you don't love me, bratty boy." Her voice was firm, but the small gulp afterward betrayed her. She was feeling something. And that was enough for me, at least for now. Better this than the expectations on her face when she laid eyes on Diaz. That petty bastard was still hanging around her, despite all the warnings. I'll make sure he'll pay for it.
"How do you—" I got cut off.
A loud thud broke the moment as she suddenly got up to look around. Whoever caused this deserved to have their head banged against a wall.
"You heard that?" she asked, walking toward the storage unit, where another thud sounded.
"I think it's just a regular fight among the employees," I replied, matching her pace. Her eyes glimmered with interest. No doubt she loved watching fights as much as I did.
"We should hide in those bushes," she said with a grin, already jumping into the thick greenery.
"That way we can hear them properly—and rate them while we're at it." She crawled forward stealthily, but I didn't bother. I walked casually, unconcerned. It was just a fight between employees, after all. Who cares if we got caught?
But she pulled me down onto my knees anyway and crawled until we were within earshot.
If calling Diaz to meet her here was a moment of rage, then walking—or crawling—here had frayed the last thread of patience I had left.
Diaz and Lidhya were entangled in some kind of toxic love quarrel, or whatever the shit drama they were unfolding, with her sandwiched between his arms against the storage unit, the sound of metal banging behind her echoing loudly.
For the record, I never thought that stupid smiling guy had it in him to raise his voice, let alone use his hands, but right now he looked completely different than I had ever seen him.
Little Vixen, on the other hand, appeared as if she had fallen into a state of shock or denial, her gaze locked onto the two of them, unwavering. That's the only reason I was managing to hold it together.
