She woke up on top of Von, still feeling the weight of her emotions. The darkness told her that it was nowhere near morning so she assumed the time was around 4.
The substances she drunk and inhaled had worn off, so she was back to her sober self.
She sat up, straddling over Von who was sound asleep. She watched as his chest heaved up and down, peacefully.
Kali gazed at Von, captivated by his peaceful face.
His chest rose and fell in a steady rhythm, soothing in the quiet darkness. She envied his easy sleep, wishing she could relax like that.
Straddling him, her hands instinctively cradled his face, tracing his features. His eyelids fluttered slightly, but he didn't stir.
Kali's thumbs brushed against his lips, feeling their softness.
"Why can't I be at peace like you?" she whispered.
Von's calm was a stark contrast to her tangled emotions. Thoughts of Ken, Tia, and her complicated relationship with Von swirled in her mind. She longed to quiet her doubts and find solace in sleep.
Kali's gaze lingered on Von's face, seeking answers. His peacefulness calmed her restless thoughts. For a moment, she forgot her worries, until she remembered.
She went to climb from off of him and back into the driver seat but was stop by Von's gentle but firm hold around her waist.
"What you doing?" Von asked, his voice low and husky, his eyes still heavy with sleep.
"I have a headache... I should go inside," Kali lied. She wasn't planning on going back into the house, but now she had the urge to go away.
"Man whatever," Von fully opening up his eyes and softly pushed her to the side, offering her assistance. He grabbed his phone and left out of the car door without saying bye.
Von had the tendency to get in his feelings when things don't go his way. He thought in his mind that she must've wanted to be with her boyfriend instead.
Kali watched him with a blank expression as he stormed off and got in his car and walked away.
After 5 minutes, Kali got out of her car, using all her energy to do so. All she wanted was to lie down and sleep.
Kali stumbled towards her front door, her legs heavy with exhaustion. She fumbled for her keys, managing to unlock the door after a few attempts.
As she entered, the familiar surroundings did little to comfort her. The silence was oppressive, echoing with memories of her argument with Ken.
Ken laid on the couch, with the Tv on watch Naruto. Once she walked in his gaze shifted to hers.
Kali kept her head down, not ready for confrontation or to be asked a million questions of what happened.
She made her way to her room, collapsing onto her bed without bothering to take off her clothes, Ken trailed behind her.
"Why you look like you got yo' ass handed to you, foe?" He asked jokingly, obviously because of her hair and clothes.
Kali lay facing the wall, cradling herself under the cover in her outside clothes. Tears fell from her eyes every time she thought about what happened.
"Leave me alone," Kali muttered, her voice barely audible.
Kali felt the bed dip beside her. Ken pushed her shoulder back, making her lie on her back so he could talk to her face to face.
"Goddamn," He uttered under his breath. "Yo' ass look like Rihanna."
Kali looked away embarrassingly, wishing she never came inside. She knew it was bad, but hearing it from somebody else made her feel worse about it.
