late night drive

It was almost midnight when the two of you decided to get out of the house. You didn’t have a destination in mind—just a need to escape the noise of the world for a while. The streets were quiet, and the only sound was the low hum of the car and the soft music playing from the stereo. Sabrina was behind the wheel, one hand resting lightly on the steering wheel, the other comfortably draped over your leg, her thumb absentmindedly brushing back and forth across your thigh.

She glanced over at you with a content smile, her hair slightly tousled by the breeze from the open window. “This is really nice,” she said softly, her voice carrying that gentle warmth she always had when she was completely at ease. “Like, no work, no plans… just you and me.”

You smiled, nodding as you gazed out the window, the city lights blurring together as you passed by. “Yeah, it feels... peaceful,” you replied, your voice quiet but happy. “Exactly what we needed, right?”

Sabrina’s hand tightened just a little on your leg, and she gave a slight nod. “Definitely.” She shifted her eyes back to the road, but her attention still felt focused on you. “Sometimes I think we get so caught up in everything else... It’s nice to just get away from it all.”

The music playing in the background was one of her favorite chill tracks, and it added to the sense of calm that surrounded you both. The windows were down, and the cool night air swept through the car, carrying with it the faint smell of rain from earlier. Sabrina let out a soft laugh, her eyes still on the road.

“Y’know, when I was a kid, I used to imagine what it’d be like to just... drive forever. Like, never stop,” she said, glancing over at you for a moment, a smile tugging at her lips. “No rules, no destination. Just see where the road takes me.”

You chuckled, the thought bringing a smile to your face. “And how far did you get in that fantasy?”

Sabrina grinned, shrugging. “I dunno. Pretty far, I guess. But I’m glad I’m not doing it alone. I mean, it’s way better when it’s with you.”

Your heart swelled at her words. “Yeah, I think I’d be pretty lost if I wasn’t here with you.”

She gave your leg another gentle squeeze, her thumb tracing soft circles on your skin. “Good, ‘cause I’m not letting you go anywhere.”

The two of you fell into a comfortable silence for a while, the soft glow of streetlights casting shadows across Sabrina’s face as she drove. There was something intimate about the quiet moments, just the sound of the engine and the wind brushing against the car. It was as if the rest of the world didn’t exist—just the two of you, floating in your own little bubble of peace.

Sabrina let out a deep, contented sigh, glancing at you again. “Hey, do you think we could, like... make this a thing? Just take off whenever, no plans, no nothing?”

You smiled at the thought, reaching over to intertwine your fingers with hers. “Yeah, I’d love that. Just us, the open road, and maybe a few snacks,” you joked lightly.

She laughed, her eyes brightening. “Okay, but like, road trip snacks are non-negotiable. We’re talkin’ chips, candy... and definitely those weird gas station nachos.”

You made a face, teasing her. “Really? Gas station nachos?”

Sabrina rolled her eyes, grinning. “Don’t knock ‘em ‘til you’ve tried ‘em. They’re like... weirdly good.”

You shook your head, laughing softly. “Alright, alright. I’ll trust you on this one.”

There was a long stretch of road ahead, and Sabrina suddenly slowed the car, pulling off to the side. You raised an eyebrow, confused at first, but then she turned off the engine and leaned back in her seat, her gaze shifting toward the night sky.

“Look,” she said softly, pointing up through the windshield.

You followed her gaze, noticing the stars above, twinkling brightly against the dark sky. The city lights were behind you now, and here, on this quiet road, the sky looked endless.

“It’s beautiful,” you whispered, the moment feeling almost surreal.

Sabrina turned to you, her eyes reflecting the soft glow of the stars above. “You’re beautiful,” she said, her voice low and sincere. There was no teasing in her tone, just pure affection.

You blushed, the warmth in your chest growing. “Sabrina…”

She reached out, her hand cupping your cheek gently. “I mean it. I don’t tell you enough, but... I’m really lucky to have you.”

You smiled, leaning into her touch. “I’m the lucky one.”

She shook her head, her lips curling into a soft smile. “Nah, trust me. It’s me.”

The two of you sat there for a moment, just staring at each other, the weight of the day slipping away. Sabrina leaned forward, pressing her forehead against yours.

“We don’t need anything else,” she whispered, her breath warm against your lips. “Just you and me. That’s all I need.”

You closed the gap between you, pressing your lips to hers in a gentle, slow kiss. It wasn’t rushed or hurried—just soft and perfect, like the night itself. When you pulled back, Sabrina rested her head against your shoulder, a content sigh escaping her lips.

“So,” she murmured, a slight grin forming, “how long do you think we can stay out here before we run out of gas?”

You chuckled, resting your head on hers. “As long as we want. It’s our night.”

Sabrina nodded, closing her eyes for a moment. “Yeah. Our night.”

And in that moment, nothing else mattered. It was just you, Sabrina, the open road, and a sky full of stars.
