DORIS'S POV

"So, you're telling me you almost dated my brother?" Bella asked in disbelief.

"It was years ago. It doesn't matter now."

"Good, because you really dodged a bullet."

"What do you mean, he is your brother?" I laughed, but then her expression turned serious.

"He is," she continued, "but he is just not capable of love. He thinks he is above it all."

"The sad thing is, I knew that." I chuckled, but even after these years I felt bitter. "I just choose to ignore it, thinking he'd change for me."

"Around that time, I was going to high school here. Kyle was in California, and I was here. Our parents were divorced, so we'd just switch from one school to another. Oh, and if Kyle ever told you some story about being a troublemaker and getting expelled—none of it's true."

"So, he didn't almost poison a teacher?"

"Do you really think he had balls to do that?"

We both laughed in sync. We were lying down on her bed, eating junk food and talking about anything that crossed our minds. Slowdive tunes were playing out of pirated CD, and we screamed out every line.

"See you walking, and I know she's my friend, again
Just the weight of the water drags me down, again
Guess I'll think of the water it's my friend, oh yea
It's just the way that the water makes me feel again."

"Ugh, I love this song." Bella screamed out of excitement.

"What was the reason of you coming back here again?"

"I'd rather not trauma dump you, so I'll just skip that part. Look, at least I met you and I reunited with my old friends."

I smiled and nodded.

"Want to hear some lore behind me?"

"Sure!"

"While I was here, I met one boy. I was so into him. At the time I sucked at Math, so I was looking for someone to help me out. Teacher recommended that boy, and I refused at first. He didn't want that either. But at the end he decided to help me. At first, we'd meet in library. Since we'd end up making out every time, we decided to meet in his house in future. We were hooking up all the time. At some point I was confused of what we were. I wasn't sure were we friends with benefits, or that we dated. We'd cuddle, go out, but he'd never call me his girlfriend. It was very confused. That was going on for so long, until the day I told him I'm leaving the town to go back to California. It broke him so much that he stopped talking to me. Week passed, and the day I had to leave arrived. Even though we weren't talking, I still wanted to say goodbye. I went on my way to his house, and I saw him with another girl. I saw it out of the window, and I just left. He still has no idea I caught him. I haven't spoken to him since then. Now, he is going out with some ginger head, so it's whatever."

"I'm so sorry. So, you've seen him again?"

"Yeah, unfortunately. We act like we don't know each other." She laughed and mumbled, "It's kinda crazy actually."

"What's his name?"

"I really can't tell you. Maybe one day."

I changed the subject and asked, "Are you going to that trip everyone is talking about?"

"Absolutely. There's no way I am missing that out." She took a bite of the burger and asked, "What about you?"

"I am not sure. I don't have anyone to be with."
