Haunting – Halsey 👁️💔
"I was as pure as a river, but now I think I'm possessed..."

----

The next morning, I woke up to loud, frantic pounding on the front door. The sound ripped me out of my half-asleep state, my heart hammering against my ribs before I even knew what was happening. A heavy sense of dread settled in my stomach. Something was wrong.

The voices downstairs were urgent—sharp, panicked. I barely had time to register anything before my bedroom door flew open, and my mom rushed in, her face pale as a ghost, her hands shaking.

"Katherine," she choked out, her voice raw with fear. "The police are here."

The words knocked the breath out of me. My entire body turned cold.

Police?

Everything blurred as I scrambled to throw on a hoodie, my hands clumsy as I yanked it over my head. My legs felt unsteady as I bolted downstairs, every step tightening the knot in my stomach. My dad was already there, standing in front of the two uniformed officers, his expression a mix of confusion and rage.

The moment my feet hit the floor, one of the officers turned toward me, his eyes sharp, unreadable.

"Katherine Carter?" he asked.

I swallowed hard, my throat dry. "Y-Yeah," I managed, barely above a whisper.

The second officer stepped forward, his voice like ice. "You're under arrest in connection with the incident involving Olivia Parker."

The room spun.

My mom gasped. My dad exploded.

"What the hell are you talking about?!" he thundered, his fists clenching at his sides. "My daughter would never hurt anyone!"

"This has to be some kind of mistake!" my mom cried, her voice breaking.

But the officers didn't flinch. I barely had time to process before the cold snap of metal clamped around my wrists. My breath hitched as the handcuffs locked in place, and panic clawed up my throat.

"Wait! No! I didn't—" My voice cracked, but my protests were drowned out by my parents' yelling.

The officers started leading me toward the door. My feet felt like they weren't even moving on their own. This wasn't real. This couldn't be real.

"Let go of my daughter!" My mom was sobbing now, trying to reach for me, but my dad held her back, his face tight with helpless fury.

My mind screamed for me to wake up. Because this had to be a nightmare.

But it wasn't.

The ride to the police station was a blur. My hands trembled in my lap, the cuffs digging into my skin, but I barely felt them. My parents followed behind in their car, their worried faces burning into my memory. My entire life was unraveling, and I had no way to stop it.

When we arrived, the station was suffocating—too bright, too cold, too loud. My breath came in shallow gasps as they led me inside. And then I saw them.

Mr. and Mrs. Parker.

Olivia's parents stood near the desk, their eyes filled with venom. Mr. Parker's face was twisted in rage, his body practically vibrating with anger.

"You pushed her!" he roared, his voice slicing through the air like a blade. "You tried to kill my daughter!"

His accusation slammed into me, stealing every ounce of air from my lungs.
