Let's Go Crazy – Prince 🎭🌪️
"Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to get through this thing called life..."
---
After the bombshell reveal at the office, everything felt like a fever dream.
No more sneaking around, no more hushed whispers or stolen glances—Patrick and I were finally free. And what better way to celebrate than a spontaneous trip to Luna Park in Coney Island?
The sun was high, the sky a perfect shade of blue, and I was practically vibrating with excitement as we reached the entrance. "I can't believe we're actually doing this!" I squealed, bouncing on my feet.
Patrick grinned, his hazel eyes glinting mischievously. "You haven't even seen the roller coasters yet."
Oh, I had. And they were absolutely terrifying.
As we stepped into the park, the air was thick with the scent of popcorn, cotton candy, and fried food that was definitely a one-way ticket to clogged arteries.
Laughter, distant screams from the rides, and carnival music blended into an intoxicating hum of excitement. Patrick laced his fingers through mine, and just like that, the world shrunk to just us.
"Alright," he announced, pointing dramatically at the monstrous roller coaster looming in the distance. "First stop: The Thunder Beast!"
I followed his gaze and immediately regretted my life choices. That thing was a death trap—tall enough to touch the clouds, steep enough to make my stomach lurch just by looking at it. "Oh hell no."
Patrick chuckled. "Oh hell yes. C'mon, babe, you got this."
"You tryna give me a heart attack?"
"I'll hold your hand the whole way." He winked.
I groaned but let him drag me to the line. By the time we got strapped in, my heartbeat was doing the Macarena. "If I die,I'm haunting you."
Patrick just threw his head back and laughed. "Deal."
The ride jerked forward, starting its slow, agonizing climb. Higher. Higher. The ground shrank beneath us.
"Oh my God, oh my God—"
Patrick squeezed my hand. "Three... two..."
Before I could blink, we plummeted.
"AHHHHHH!" I screamed so loud I was sure my soul left my body. The wind ripped through my hair, and my stomach was somewhere in another dimension.
Patrick? Laughing. Enjoying my suffering.
"I hate you!" I shrieked mid-drop.
He just howled in delight. "You're having fun, admit it!"
I was not going to admit it.
By the time we stumbled off the ride, my legs felt like spaghetti, and my voice was probably gone. But damn, the adrenaline? 10/10.
The rest of the day was a blur of chaos—dodging kids hyped up on sugar, trying (and failing) to win a stuffed panda, and stuffing our faces with pretzels and ice cream.
Ride after ride, my screams of terror blended with our laughter. It was the kind of day you wish you could bottle up forever.
And then, the universe decided I was having too much fun.
We were standing near the Ferris wheel, watching the sky melt into streaks of orange and pink, when a voice shatteredmy perfect little bubble.
"Kat."
I froze. Ice spread through my veins.
I knew that voice.
Slowly, I turned. And there they were—my parents. Arms crossed. Faces carved from stone.
Oh, shit.
Patrick's grip on my hand tightened. His thumb brushed my knuckles like a silent I'm here. But even his touch couldn't stop the sinking feeling in my gut.
My dad took a slow step forward, his expression thunderous. "We told you to stay away from him." His voice was low, controlled, but laced with pure fury. "After everything his family did... and you're still sneaking around with him?"
Patrick stiffened beside me. "Mr. Carter, I—"
My mom cut him off, her eyes blazing. "Don't even try, Patrick." She spat his name like venom.
"Your parents called my daughter a murderer. After what happened with Olivia, they spread rumors and tore her apart. And you think we're just gonna let this slide?"
Olivia.
Her name was a punch to the gut.
The accident. The whispers. The accusations.
Patrick's parents had called me reckless, told everyone it was my fault. My parents had fought back, but the damage had already been done. My reputation? Shattered. My self-worth? In the dumpster. And they'd never even apologized.
And now, here we were, stuck in the same damn cycle.
"Mom, Dad, please," I whispered, my throat tight. "Patrick isn't like them. He's different."
My mom scoffed. "Different? You think we don't know better? You think after everything, we'll let you throw your life away for him?"
I clenched my jaw. My heart was pounding. My vision blurred. And then, before I even thought about it, the words slipped out—raw and real.
"I love him."
Silence.
A slow, dangerous kind of silence.
My dad's face turned an alarming shade of red. "Get in the car." His voice was sharp, like a knife slicing through any illusion of control I had left. He grabbed my arm. "We're done with this conversation."
Patrick took a step forward. "Mr. Carter, with all due respect—"
"No." My dad's glare was molten fury. "Stay away from our daughter. This is the last time you'll see her."
Pain sliced through me like glass. I turned back, locking eyes with Patrick. His hands were curled into fists, his jaw clenched so tight it could break.
"Kat, I—"
But I couldn't even respond before my dad yanked me away.
And just like that, the dream was over.
