Anaya's POV
This is not how it was supposed to happen. This was not when it was supposed to happen. Then why?
My mind went blank as I stared at the couple standing in front of me. They have grown old but still look quite youthful. As my gaze went behind them, I saw another couple standing with a young boy who seemed a few years younger to Aishu.
I knew I was not ready yet, and though I wanted this to happen all these years, I felt blank now.
"What happened mumma?" Aishu asked as she walked towards me, "Who are they?"
Abhi too came forward as I gave no response to her. I looked at him and his expressions gave my answers. He knew it's them. He has seen their pictures.
"Ugh Aishu, why don't you take Ahaana and uhm your new friend with you in the room and play together?" Abhi said as he pointed towards the young boy.
"Uhm okay," Aishu agreed. However, her suspicious eyes darting between me and Abhi clearly told me she didn't take the bait.
Once the children left, I asked them to walk inside as well. The way they all were looking at me, I knew they were guilty. But why did they have to come here, like this and at this time? They should have contacted me first.
"Aayu, beta-" Mumma said but I knew better than to forgive them this easily.
"Anaya. That's my name," I said. Everyone exchanged glances with each other as Abhi held my hand, giving me the support I needed very much.
"Anaya," Bhaiya said. "I know how we reacted at that time was impulsive and we shouldn't have let you go, but... It- Everything just happened. We did try to reach out to you but-" I interrupted him.
"No you didn't!" I almost yelled as a sob escaped my lips. "I still have my number, you never contacted me..."
"You might still have the number but it's not reachable, beta." This time it was papa.
Is it just me or are they taking turns to speak?
Not the time Anaya!
Confused with papa's statement, I looked towards Abhi and his face looked like he figured out what had happened. I tapped his shoulder as I gestured to him. "May I?" He asked and I nodded almost instantly.
"Anu- Anaya, you told me that you kept the phone number with you but you also received a new number from the company..."
"Yeah so?"
"I mean, did you recharge both the numbers?"
"No I could only afford to recharge one number at that time, so I recharged only the company's-" I abruptly stopped as I realised what happened. Of course, the number got disabled.
I looked at my family and guilt overtook me. I blamed them all along while I was me because of whose stupidity all this stretched too long.
"Sorry," I muttered.
In an instant, mumma leaped towards me and gave me the mama bear hug I was craving all these years. I gave in and hugged her back as tears escaped my eyes.
"You are so strong my baccha. You stood up for yourself and established yourself in your dream company. And you took so good care of Aisha. You are so pure hearted mera baccha!" She spoke as she caressed my hair.
