Containing the Sun

In the middle of summer, in the scorching heat
The little boy held a blanket over his arm
Waddling over the streets in his tiny sneakers
Catching the onlookers with his charm

"Where you off to at this time of the day"
The boy looked up and shielded his face
"I m off to block the sun" he said
Holding the blanket high above his head

"how do you plan on blocking the sun.
The sun is miles away."
"I will throw this blanket into the sky,
it will block the heat away"

Saying so he walked across
to the base of the mountain old
And he climbed his way to the top
with the blanket neatly rolled
An old man saw and offered to help
The boy politely declined
He said it was his job to finish it first
He would see it to the end

He walked over to the edge of the cliff
Tired and drencing in sweat
And he held the blanket as if to catch
The sun in a fishing net.

A crowd had gathered over there
Curiousity overtaking their hair
Half of them were laughing at him
While the rest were waiting to see him fail

"How can someone block the sun,
It never has happened till date"
"Just wait and watch while this tiny boy
Tries to change our fate"

The boy ignored the mean remarks
And called out to the god of winds
"Deliver this to the sun,
So the heat will be contained within"

The blanket swiftly left his arms
and flew out far far away
Teary eyed the boy wished
His wish would be heard today

"See, nothing happened" the crowd jeered
"The same as everyday does"
The boy cried for his mother
Would toil again in the sun

The next moment a majestic sight
Took place right in front of his eyes
The sky had darkened, heat was gone
The sun was shrinking in size

The sky turned red, then turned pitch black
The sun was out of sight
The boy lit up thinking the sun
Gave up to his fight

The crowd stood there struck in awe
The little boys blanket did the job
The light was gone in the middle of day
Turning day to night like god

They chanted his name, picked him up
Drove him around the town
On the other side, a sickly woman
Got comfort from the shade around.
