Before the Engagement Party.....
————————————
Rias slowly opened her eyes, waking up.
She was greeted by sight of Maoyu and Akeno with the former in between them.
She looked at the white haired girl, shivering a little.
Her temperature felt cooler than usual.
She felt the girl's forehead and checked her breathing.
It wasn't strong, but it wasn't as weak as before.
She sighed to herself, feeling more tired than usual.
After the battle, the House of Gremory seemed to be plunged into chaos.
Not only were they receiving threats from the House of Phenex, others houses who observed the game also voiced their concerns.
Devil society looked down on demons so the fact that a demon was able to best one of their own was a problem in itself. On top of that, a demon wielding such raw and immense demonic power wasn't good for anyone.
Knowledge of her existence could incite rebellion amongst those who were against the current state of affairs at in the Underworld, and if Maoyu landed in the wrong hands, it could plunge the Underworld into another civil war.
So in other words, Maoyu could be seen as a threat to the status quo.
Her close murder of the Phenex siblings didn't help the situation at all.
It was for that reason, she agreed to marry Riser.
The House of Phenex were demanding Maoyu's head and she naturally couldn't let that happen.
Although her acquiescence to their agreements eased the tension between their two families, she one they weren't going to let the situation go completely. Their pride as devils were also on the line.
She sighed to herself.
Did she make the right choice going against Riser?
She should she just have accepted things as she always have?
It wasn't like she didn't know of their engagement. She had known since she was old enough to understand.
She guessed she never really took it seriously because she always had time....until she didn't.
Her brows furrowed:
Not only was Maoyu put in a difficult position, but Issei almost died.
Was it worth the sacrifice of her precious servants? Was it all really worth it?
What else could she have done? What should have done to prevent this from happening?
"What are you thinking about?" Akeno asked, snapping her out of her thoughts.
Rias looked over, meeting a pair of violet eyes.
She silently stared at her before looking down.
"Everything." She said. "About what I've could have done to prevent all of this."
Akeno stared at her friend who was wearing a permanent frown.
She noticed that she looked paled and there were bags under her eyes like she hadn't been getting any sleep.
Her eyes shifted down to Maoyu who still hadn't woken up.
She noticed that her body felt weaker than usual.
