The afternoon sun streamed through the windows of the Choi family home, casting long shadows on the polished wooden floors. Beomgyu sat at the dining table, nervously picking at his food, though his appetite had long since vanished. He had done his best to stay out of Yeonjun’s way, but it was only a matter of time before his stepbrother found a reason to lash out again.

Across the table, Yeonjun’s eyes were glued to his phone, a scowl darkening his face. Beomgyu knew that look all too well. Something was bothering Yeonjun, and it wouldn’t be long before he took it out on the first thing—or person—he found annoying.

Bg: hyung..
Beomgyu said softly, trying to keep his voice steady,
Bg: about the meeting later...what should I expect?

Yeonjun didn’t respond immediately, still scrolling through his phone as if Beomgyu didn’t exist. Finally, he let out a low growl of frustration, tossing the phone onto the table with a loud thud.
Yj:Are u really that   dense,Beomgyu?

Beomgyu’s stomach twisted in knots. Bg: I-I just wanted to be prepared....

Yeonjun’s gaze snapped to Beomgyu, eyes cold and full of contempt.
Yj: Prepared?  you can't prepare for anything,Beomgyu. You're too soft. Pathetic!!

Beomgyu flinched but kept his eyes down. He had grown used to Yeonjun’s harsh words, but every insult still stung, like salt rubbed into an open wound.
Bg: I'm sorry.....

Yj: stop saying you're sorry jeez!
Yeonjun hissed, pushing himself up from the table. He walked around to where Beomgyu sat and stood over him, towering like a storm cloud ready to burst.
Yj: you're always apologizing but you never change. You are just a useless kid with no backbone.

Beomgyu opened his mouth to say something, anything, but the words caught in his throat. He wanted to stand up for himself, to prove that he wasn’t as weak as Yeonjun thought, but the fear paralyzed him. He couldn’t move.

Suddenly, Yeonjun’s hand shot out, grabbing the back of Beomgyu’s chair and jerking it backward. Beomgyu’s heart raced as he nearly fell, his hands gripping the table to steady himself.

Yj: what the hell are u doing?  Yeonjun snarled, his voice dripping with venom.
Yj: can't even sit properly now oh! god. you made everything worse!

Beomgyu shook his head frantically.
Bg: I didn't mean to—

Yeonjun’s hand collided with the side of Beomgyu’s face, the sound echoing in the silent room. Beomgyu gasped, his cheek stinging from the impact. Tears welled up in his eyes, but he refused to let them fall. Crying would only make it worse.

Yj: you make everything worse.. Yeonjun said, his voice low and dangerous. He grabbed Beomgyu’s collar, yanking him up from the chair with a force that made Beomgyu stumble.
Yj: I can't stand looking at you. You are a waste of space...

Beomgyu’s head spun from the force, but he didn’t try to fight back. There was no point. He knew how this would end—he had been through it too many times. Yeonjun would take out his anger, and Beomgyu would just have to endure it.

Yeonjun shoved Beomgyu against the wall, pinning him there with his arm.
Yj: you're nothing Beomgyu.Nothing. Do you understand that? you can't do anything right you ruin everything.

Beomgyu nodded weakly, his body trembling as he tried to hold back the sobs threatening to break free. He didn’t understand why Yeonjun hated him so much, why every little thing he did seemed to annoy his stepbrother to the point of violence.

Yj: why do you even try?
Yeonjun spat, his face inches from Beomgyu’s.
Yj: No one cares about you. You think you matter? you don't.

The words cut deep, and for a moment, Beomgyu thought he might break under the weight of them. But even as his body shook and his heart ached, something inside him refused to give in. He wouldn’t cry. He wouldn’t show Yeonjun that he had won.

Yeonjun’s grip tightened on Beomgyu’s collar, and for a brief second, Beomgyu thought he might lose consciousness from the pressure. But just as suddenly as it had started, Yeonjun let go, stepping back and glaring at him with disgust.

Yj: get out of my sight.
Yeonjun muttered, his voice filled with contempt.
Yj: i can't even stand to look at you right now.

Beomgyu didn’t hesitate. He quickly slipped past Yeonjun, his heart racing as he ran upstairs to his room. He slammed the door shut behind him, his breaths coming in ragged gasps. He collapsed onto his bed, burying his face in his pillow to muffle the sobs that finally escaped.

His cheek throbbed where Yeonjun had struck him, but it was nothing compared to the ache in his chest. No matter how hard he tried, nothing he did was ever enough. He wasn’t strong enough. He wasn’t smart enough. He wasn’t… enough.

Hours later, the sound of heavy footsteps echoed down the hallway, and a firm knock rattled Beomgyu’s door.

Beomgyu?
a voice called, deep and authoritative. It was their father.

Beomgyu’s heart skipped a beat.
Bg: Y-yes dad?

Mr.Choi: come study we need to talk.

Beomgyu wiped his eyes quickly, scrambling out of bed. His cheek was still red from Yeonjun’s slap, but he hoped the swelling wasn’t noticeable. The last thing he wanted was for their father to see the evidence of Yeonjun’s anger.

He made his way downstairs, where Yeonjun was already standing near the door to their father’s study, looking as unbothered as ever. He barely glanced at Beomgyu as he approached.

Yj: move faster will you?
Yeonjun muttered under his breath, annoyance lacing his voice.

Beomgyu bit his lip but said nothing, following Yeonjun into the study. Their father, Mr. Choi, sat behind the large mahogany desk, his gaze stern as he looked over them both.

You both r getting older. Mr. Choi began, his voice calm but commanding.
Mr.Choi: and with that comes responsibility. It's time you start thinking seriously about you future.

Beomgyu shifted uncomfortably, unsure of what to say. Yeonjun, of course, was unfazed.

Yj: I'm already handling things on College  Yeonjun said casually, though the arrogance in his tone was unmistakable.
Yj: I don't see why this concerns me

Mr. Choi’s eyes narrowed slightly, but he didn’t rise to Yeonjun’s bait.
Mr.choi: It concerns both of you. College isn't just about showing up when you fell like it. & Beomgyu baby you need to focus more in studies.

Beomgyu nodded quickly, not daring to look up.
Bg: yes dad.

Yeonjun rolled his eyes.
Yj: So what's the point of this meeting?  to tell us something we already know?.

Mr. Choi leaned forward, his gaze sharpening.
The point is that I expect more from both of you. you need to be better example for your brother. and Beomgyu you need to stip being so easily swayed by others. stand up for yourself.

Beomgyu’s heart sank. Stand up for himself? Against Yeonjun? He could barely speak to him without trembling, let alone stand up to him.

The silence stretched on for a moment before Mr. Choi sighed, leaning back in his chair.
Mr.Choi: That's all I wanted to say. Think about it.

Yeonjun was the first to leave, storming out without a word. Beomgyu lingered for a moment longer, giving a polite bow before hurrying after his stepbrother. He could already feel the tension rising again.

What will happen next. to be continued.........
