The morning sunlight barely peeked through the gray clouds as Beomgyu trudged his way to school. His body felt heavy, the events of the previous day still weighing on him. The slap from Yeonjun had left a faint bruise on his cheek, but it wasn’t just the physical pain that hurt—it was the sinking feeling of dread that grew with every step closer to school.

The school building loomed ahead, a massive structure that housed both the high school and college departments. It was always busy with students coming and going, but today, the bustle felt suffocating. Beomgyu kept his head down, hoping to blend into the crowd.

He clutched the straps of his backpack tightly as he made his way to his locker. It was still early, and he wanted to put away his things before lunch break, where the chance of running into Yeonjun was highest. The idea of facing his stepbrother in front of everyone made his stomach churn.

Beomgyu glanced around nervously as he opened his locker, quickly stashing away his books and pulling out his lunch. He kept telling himself that if he stayed out of Yeonjun’s sight, maybe—just maybe—today would be different. Maybe Yeonjun would ignore him, or better yet, not even see him at all.

But fate wasn’t that kind.

The first sign of trouble came when he heard familiar voices echoing down the hallway. Laughter. Loud, arrogant laughter. Beomgyu’s hands froze mid-motion as he stuffed his things into his locker, recognizing the voice immediately.

Yeonjun.

Beomgyu’s heart sank as he caught sight of his older stepbrother walking down the hall with a group of his college friends—his gang of troublemakers who seemed to worship the ground Yeonjun walked on. They all had that same smug look on their faces, their confidence fueled by Yeonjun’s presence.

Yj: Look who it is
Yeonjun’s voice rang out, dripping with malice as he spotted Beomgyu standing by his locker. The grin on his face widened, and his friends quickly followed his gaze, snickering as they approached.

Beomgyu’s hands trembled as he tried to shut his locker quickly, but it was too late. Yeonjun was already there, his long shadow falling over Beomgyu as he leaned against the locker next to his.

Yj: Hey Beomgyu..
Yeonjun sneered, his voice low and mocking.
Yj: What's the rush? Trying to avoid us?..

Beomgyu swallowed hard, his throat suddenly dry.
Bg: No....I-I was just..getting my lunch.

Yeonjun let out a sharp laugh, and his friends echoed him, like a pack of hyenas.
Yj: Lunch?  you're so predictable, Beomgyu. Always doing what you're supposed to, like a good little boy.

Beomgyu felt his face flush with embarrassment, his hands clutching the lunchbox in front of him as if it were a shield.
Bg: I-I want to eat in peace hyung..

Yeonjun’s smile vanished in an instant, his eyes narrowing dangerously. He stepped closer, his breath hot against Beomgyu’s face.
Yj: what did you just called me?

Beomgyu’s heart pounded in his chest.
Bg: H-hyung..?

Yj: Don't..Ever..call me that.  Yeonjun growled, shoving Beomgyu hard against the lockers. The metal rattled from the impact, and Beomgyu winced, biting back a gasp of pain.
Yj: I'm not you're brother, Beomgyu I've never been & never will be.

The gang laughed, feeding off Yeonjun’s cruelty as they surrounded Beomgyu. He could feel their eyes on him, mocking and judging, making him feel smaller and more insignificant with every passing second.

One of Yeonjun’s friends, a tall guy with dyed blond hair, leaned in and grabbed Beomgyu’s lunchbox out of his hands.
What's this, huh? is this what your so protective of? let's see what little Beomgyu eating today..

Bg: No, please—
Beomgyu protested, but his voice was barely a whisper.

Yeonjun’s friend tossed the lunchbox to another guy in their group, laughing as they began tossing it back and forth like it was some kind of game. Beomgyu’s chest tightened as he watched helplessly, his lunch being carelessly flung around.

Opps
the guy holding the lunchbox smirked as he let it fall to the ground, the contents spilling across the floor. The sandwich Beomgyu’s mother had made for him was now smeared across the dirty tiles, completely ruined.

Yj: Aww poor Beomgyu
Yeonjun taunted, crossing his arms as he watched with amusement.
Yj: Looks like you'll be hungry today. How sad..

Beomgyu’s hands clenched into fists at his sides, his heart pounding in his ears. He could feel the hot tears stinging his eyes, but he fought desperately to hold them back. Crying in front of them would only make things worse. It always did.

Yj: C'mon Beomgyu
Yeonjun mocked, stepping closer and towering over him.
Yj: Why don't u do something for once? Fight back, huh? or r u too much of a coward.

Beomgyu’s lips trembled, but no words came out. He wanted to fight back, to tell Yeonjun to leave him alone, to stand up for himself like his father had told him to. But the fear, the weight of years of mistreatment, kept him silent.

The hall was mostly empty now, except for a few students who lingered at the end of the corridor, too scared to get involved. Beomgyu could feel their eyes on him too, their pity only making him feel more ashamed.

Yeonjun clicked his tongue, shaking his head as if disappointed.
Yj: you are really pathetic, Beomgyu you can't even stand up for yourself. How are you going to survive high school if you're this week?

Beomgyu swallowed the lump in his throat, trying desperately to keep his composure. He stared at the floor, his hands still trembling, wishing he could disappear.

Just as Beomgyu thought the torment would never end, the bell rang, signaling the end of lunch break. The sound was like a lifeline, pulling him back from the edge of despair.

Yeonjun’s smirk faded slightly as he glanced at the clock.
Yj: saved by the bell huh?

His friends laughed one last time before Yeonjun turned on his heel, walking away without another word. The group followed him, their laughter fading into the distance as they disappeared down the hall, leaving Beomgyu alone in the mess they had made.

Beomgyu sank to the floor, staring at the spilled contents of his lunchbox. His chest felt hollow, like something had broken inside him. No matter what he did, no matter how hard he tried to avoid Yeonjun, he couldn’t escape him—not even at school.

Beomgyu sat there for a few moments, the weight of his humiliation pressing down on him. The hallway had cleared out completely, leaving him in silence. Slowly, he reached for the ruined sandwich, his fingers trembling as he picked up the pieces.

Bg: I'll be fine.
he whispered to himself, though the words felt empty.
Bg: I just have to get through this. It will be over soon.

But even as he tried to convince himself, deep down, Beomgyu knew that this was only the beginning. As long as Yeonjun was around, the torment would never stop.

What will happen next. To be continued.......
