BAFANA MESULI MAJOLA

It's Monday and it's my first day at my new job as a call centre agent. I honestly never thought I'd ever work at a call centre, well i always told myself that because of all the pressure and stress the job comes with. Here I am today, at the same job i always told myself that i would never do because of a girl... no wait, a woman.

So far the work is good and most of the people in here are minding their own business so I'm happy with that. It's lunchtime and I'm contemplating going downstairs to the cafeteria that I saw or to just order on ubereats. My phone rings in my hand just as I am about to go to the cafeteria.

Me: "Thotho?"

Mom: "Hey baby, unjani?"

Me: "I'm okay mama, wena?"

Mom: "I'm not good baby. How are you finding your new job?" Yes, she knows about my new job even though I told her some lies here and there.

Me: "It's okay mama. I'm okay too so don't worry."

Mom: "How can I not worry Fana?! You are my baby and you chose to move a hundred kilometres away from your home mntanam! Tell me how am I supposed to not worry?!" she asks with her now shaky voice.

Me: "Mom..."

Mom: "No baby, I am not trying to guilt trip you, I'm just sad that y'all are all growing up so fast." I sigh. I don't like hearing my mother this sad.

Me: "I will visit you again this weekend Thotho, I promise."

Mom: "Okay baby. Anyway i have sent an uber there with a package for you." I smile.

Me: "Thank you mawami."

Mom: "Go wait for him by the gate because he is getting closer." I thank her again before we wrap up the call. I decide to jsut take the stairs since the lift seems to be held up somewhere and I don't have time. Just as I'm about to walk the front door, I bump into Remy. Her entire food spills on the both of us and lands on the floor, creating a mess. I scratch my head looking down at her now scattered food.

Me: "I am so sorry." I tell her. She looks ip at me and frowns placing her hands on her waist.

Remy: "Ke ntse ke lekoa ka botebo mona! U batla eng ho 'na, monna oa hau?!" I scratch my head even more because I don't understand some of her words.

Me: "Ngiyaxolisa bandla Remy."

Remy: "You are such a nuisance wena! You're like a stubborn fly in a pile of sh*t! Leave me alone, please!" she pushes me off her way making me bump my head on the door and walks away. I sigh and try to clean up the mess then quickly go get my parcel from the uber.

Sqalo: "What?! I hope you told her off?!"

Me: "No, I didn't. I just couldn't bafo, I love that woman so much." I sigh resting my head on my couch. Sqalo decided to move into my apartment last weekend, without my consent by the way. He said he couldn't take the loneliness and distance between us.

Sqalo: "F*ck that! It is time you let her be and move on. It is clear that she doesn't like you, let her be."

Me: "I will try."

Sqalo: "If it means leave that job then do so! it's not like you will lack anything." he shrugs. He is right but I just want to gain my own independence without any support from my family.

Me: "I sent her flowers this afternoon with a note of apology."

Sqalo: "Aybo wena, can't you take a hint nah?" he asks me placing his beer on the table.

Me: "Let me be please." I won't lie and say Remy's words didn't hurt me because they did and alot too. I think it's time I actually started to back off just like Sqalo said.

Here I am, standing in front of Ntokozo's door with my hands full. I lightly knock again and the door opens.

Ntokozo: "Fana." she seems shocked and I honestly can't blame her. I give her a light smile.

Me: "Hi. I'm sorry to just drop by late at night."

Ntokozo: "Come in." I walk in and wait for her to close the door and allow me a seat. She leads me to the lounge area and we takes seats on her leather couch.

Me: "These are for you, I was also hoping that we could have dinner together." I say nervously handing her the bunch of flowers a box of chocolates. She gives me a fake smile and nods.

Ntokozo: "Thank you."

Me: "I am here to apologise again for last time and..."

Ntokozo: "There is no need to apologise again Bafana, when you've already did." I smile and nod.

Me: "I thought you are mad at me. You have been ignoring me and I really thought we were good friends."

Ntokozo: "After your rejection Fana, I chose to distance myself from you because I was only breaking my heart. I know it was very bad of me to ask that we be more than friends so..."

Me: "It's okay. We can be more than friends." her eyes look like they are about to explode.

Ntokozo: "What do you mean?!"

Me: "I mean that, let us be more than friends. I don't want us to be sex buddies but we can try for a relationship and see where it takes us." she blushes.

Ntokozo: "Oh?"

Me: "Uyangivuma ke ntombi?" she blushes nodding. I smile and sit closer to her before I grab her neck and kiss her.
