Bafana Mesuli Majola

It was finally the weekend and I couldn't be happier. I was going to see my family, I missed my mother so much. I'm a mama's boy all the way, I'm not even ashamed of it. My relationship with my father is kind of rocky. We don't really get along, Mom has tried a million times to get us to sort whatever issues out but it never worked.

As I parked the car in the driveway, Mom was already standing by the veranda waiting for me with a big smile on her face. I locked my car and walked up to her. She hugged me tightly and kept on kissing my face.

Mom: "I miss you so much Fana."

Me: "I missed you too Thotho." She smiled and took my hand, leading me inside the house. I was instantly met by Swe who jumped into my arms. I'm mostly shocked that she is here instead of Cape Town.

Me: "Girl, you heavy and certainly not 5 anymore!" this girl!

Swe: "I don't care, you are my big brother hawu." I laughed and hung my arm around her shoulders. We sat in the living room while Mom was busy in the kitchen.

Me: "How is school?"

Swe: "Y'all never warned me about the pressure and everything, Bhuti." I chuckled.

Me: "Come on, it can't be that bad."

Swe: "Ay, I'm tired mina."

Me: "Hang on, you will finish in no time plus you can't drop out now."

Dad: "You're a fine one to talk." he said coming in.

Mom: "Lizwi!" she shouted for him. That's one of the other reasons my father and I don't get along. It's because I refused to further my studies after matric and he thinks I'm just playing with my life which isn't true.

Swe: "What is it now?"

Me: "Don't worry about it." Mom walks in holding a tray with food and Dad behind her holding a glass of juice. They place everything in front of me.

Dad: "We have to talk." Mom glares at him.

Mom: "Fana, eat and then you can go talk to your father." I smirked at Dad who just rolled his eyes.

Dad: "What is your problem?!"

Me: "Nothing." I shrug.

Dad: "When are you coming home?!"

Me: "For what? I'm good with visiting like always." I tell him shrugging.

Dad: "I don't get why you are being stubborn. Sure, I got the idea and I've seen that you can be independent, come back home now." I chuckle sarcastically.

Me: "You honestly thought this was all some stupid tantrum?! I'm too old for that. I just don't want to be under my siblings' shadows. I'm perfectly fine and happy where I am." Honestly, I love my siblings and our relationship is great but I just can't stand Dad always comparing us or better yet me to them.

Dad: "Under shadows ani manje Bafana?!"

Me: "Are we done here baba? I want to go back to baking with my mom and sister."

Dad: "No. I want you back home and leave that job at Spar. I promise that I will not force you to go back to school and I certainly won't be interfering with your dreams."

Me: "Aren't you interfering now? Dad look, you don't have to worry yourself about me. I have got this." he sighs.

Dad: "There's nothing I can do or say to convince you to move back home?"

Me: "No.. and why are you suddenly so obsessed with me coming back because you didn't care?!"

Dad: "That's not true Fana. You are my son, I care, and I will always care futhi. I just want all my kids under the same roof and your mother made me see reason. I wasn't supposed to be even fighting with you. I'm your father, not your friend."

Me: "Mmhm."
