SWELIHLE MAJOLA

I was in my room resting, I have been studying so i was taking a little break. I was about to go make some coffee when my phone rang.

Me: "Hello?"

Devone: "Can I please see you?"

Me: "For what?"

Devone: "Can we go grab something to eat please?"

Me: "I'm not hungry Devone and I think i made myself clear when I told you to leave me alone."

Devone: "I'm sorry but I won't be able to do that. I will respect your request but I'm not promising to do it."

Me: "Mxm."

Devone: "Please come, I'm already outside the gate." i just hang up and wear my sleepers. As I open the door, I'm met by my brother and friend.

Xoli: "Uyaphi?!"

Me: "I'll be back now, don't leave ngingabuyile." I quickly rush down using the stairs. I find him standing next to his car.

Me: "Mr Carson."

Devone: "Hi." he says smiling but I just give him a blank look.

Me: "I really don't appreciate your disrespect. You cannot just rock up at my residence and tell me to come out, we are not friends or anything for you to do that. So please respect me and my boundaries."

Devone: "I'm sorry." He opens the passenger door for me before he gets in the driver's side.

Me: "Sure. why am I here?" He leans to the back seats and retrieves a bouquet of light pink tulips and a gift bag. I open the gift bag and there is a small box, a bottle of wine and surprisingly its my favorite wine. I open the small box, inside there is a white gold platinum pendant. I smile admiring it. There is a note attached to the box, it reads 'Be my girlfriend, please.'

Devone: "Ngiyacela Lihle." I smile.

Me: "How? Why?"

Devone: "I like you. A lot too. I have been trying to hold myself but now I just can't." I sigh placing the flowers and gifts on my lap.

Me: "Devone..."

Devone: "Just give me a chance Lihle, please?"

Me: "What about the school policy?! isn't it forbidden for lectures to be in relationships with students?!"

Devone: "No."

Me: "I'm sure it is."

Devone: "If it will make you feel any better, I will quit my job here and go work somewhere else."

Me: "What?!"

Devone: "I'm coming up with solutions here Swe."

Me: "A diamond pendant will not convince me Devone, your actions should. When I say actions, I also don't mean throwing money at me." he nods.

Devone: "I understand. I will prove my love to you."

Me: "Thank you. I love the pendant." I tell him smiling.

Devone: "Let me help you put it on." I hand it to him and let him put it around my neck. I thank him and hug him.

As soon as I walked into my room, these two screamed dramatically when they laid their eyes on my flowers.

LJ: "Wena!"

Me: "He asked me to be his girlfriend."

Xoli: "Tell me you agreed oe!"

Me: "I didn't. Well... I haven't agreed. I just want to see how is he going to convince me."

LJ: "What do you mean?!"

Me: "I mean that material things won't make me agree just like that!"

Xoli: "Yoh wena!"

LJ: "You better keep us updated." he points his finger at me.

Me: "So what's up with y'all?" LJ sighs heavily and leans back on my bed.

Xoli: "Tell her and let's hear what she says."

Me: "Tell me what?"

LJ: "You remember I planned a getaway weekend for Yamkela's birthday tomorrow?"

Me: "Yeah?"

LJ: "I paid for everything yesterday, the transport, the deposit and for the accommodan. I was to pay the balance before we check out of the place."

Me: "It doesn't sound so bad yazi, we should go nathi Xoli."

LJ: "Yamkela cancelled on me this morning, nx!"

Me: "What?!"

LJ: "Worst of all, all that money i've paid already isn't refundable!"

Xoli: "I still say he should refund all the money hawu!"

LJ: "It doesn't matter anymore friend. I was the one who was forward anyway!"

Me: "No, wait... we can still go. Let's just go ourselves. You can't let that much money go to waste."

LJ: "Why haven't I thought of that?!"

Me: "You are also coming!" I point at Xoli.

Xoli: "What will I say to my mom?"

Me: "Let's call her now." she hands me her phone after dialling her mom's number. They both keep quiet as it rings.

Her mom: "Xoli? Are you okay baby?"

Me: "Uhm Hi mah. This is Swelihle, Xolisa's bestfriend."

Her mom: "Oh hi. Is she okay?"

Me: "Yes. I was calling to ask that you please let Xoli sleepover for the weekend since we will be having a small slumber party for me."

Her mom: "Oh? Is it safe there?"

Me: "Very mah. I can even give you my mother's number."

Her mom: "Bo, it's okay. She can stay over then but she must update me ukuthi uright."

Xoli: "Thank you mommy!" she screams and drops the phone.

Me: "Hawu wena!"

Xoli: "I will use your things because I am not going back to that house to fetch my things."

LJ: "Let me go pack!"

We were now at the resort and it really looks so beautiful. We get escorted inside to the reception room. We walk up to the reception lady who greets us with a smile.

lady: "Hello there, I am Tina and how may i help you?"

LJ: "We are checking in, under the booking of Mr Lizwilenkosi Junior Majola."

Tina: "Couples room?!" she asks unsure.

Me: "It was an urgent booking, we were looking for somewhere nice we could go to for our friend's birthday." she smiles and nods.

Tina: "That's nice. I wish i had friends like you." we giggle.

Tina: "Are y'all okay with the couples room or would you like to change it?!"

Me: "It is okay, thank you."

Tina: "I understand. Let me just get your key then." she disappears for a short while and comes back again with the key and two entry cards.

Tina: "Oh by the way, there was a young man here earlier on, he was trying to check in under the same booking but he gave the wrong reference number and that is how I knew he was lying." we all share looks.

Me: "Uhm did he mention his name and who was he here with?"

Tina: "It was a Yamkela Nyawuza, he was with a Sonto Ndawo."

LJ: "That's his cousin." he whispers.

Me: "Thank you so much for your help Tina." we hrab our things and go to our room, following the doorman.
