Life---some say it's beautiful, others argue it's not. For Taehyung, it's the latter. He hates being alive. Before, he lacked the courage to end his own life, and now he can't, bound by the weight of family expectations. He must live, if only for his family reputation.
Just two hours ago, Taehyung had said his farewells to his family. Now, he sits in silence in the car beside his husband, Jungkook. Who is driving. The drive feels long, and the silent between them even longer.
Taehyung feels the pain of leaving behind the family he'd spent 18 years with. A new life awaits him, but the familiar feeling of being unwanted still remains.
Staring out the window, Taehyung watches the darkness of the night stretch across the landscape. The full moon feels like following him, going with him to a new life. Jungkook is focused on the road ahead, while their friends-Yoonmin, Namjin, and Hopeji (J-Hope and Yoongi) drive in the cars just ahead.
Four cars glide through the stillness of Mooncrest Street, tail lights of the car glowing like distant fireflies. Neither speaks. Taehyung feels no urge to talk, and Jungkook appears entirely focused on the road.
Yet Taehyung's eyes can't help but wander to Jungkook's side profile, to the rose tucked into his coat pocket, and the red string still wrapped around his wrist. He looks down at his own wrist, where an identical string rests, and an unexpected smile tugs at his lips.
*We're soulmates* he muses silently. The red string was tied around their wrists for the ceremony, and they would wear it for a week. After a week the string would leave a permanent red mark-a symbol to bind them for life.
Up ahead, Taehyung notices the three cars in front taking a turn, heading toward the bright lights of a bustling neighborhood. Jungkook's car, however, continues forward.
"They went that way," Taehyung says, puzzled.
"Aren't we supposed to go too?""We don't live there," Jungkook responds, glancing at Taehyung briefly.
"Our house is a bit farther.""Oh... how long will it take?" Taehyung asks, more to fill the silence than out of curiosity.
"Ten minutes. Don't worry, they'll visit our house sometime." Taehyung notes how Jungkook says ours whenever he mentions something of his. That's does making Taehyung to feel something.
It's a little difference from the man he first met. Slowly but surely, Jungkook seems to be opening up, little by little. Somehow, that small detail makes Taehyung feel a touch more at ease.
He looks around the car every surface is spotless, without a trace of dust or dirt. It matches Jungkook's air of being quiet perfect.
Soon, they reach their destination. Taehyung steps out and gazes at the house before him. It's a two-story home with a large balcony adorned with lush green plants, the soft glow of lights indicating someone is inside.
