Sayaka Mei kept her head down, focusing on the textbook in  front of her. The quiet of the library was her sanctuary, far from the busy school hallways where students like Oikawa Tooru thrived. Popular, charismatic, and always surrounded by admirers, Oikawa was the kind of boy who never looked twice at someone like Mei.

That was, until today.

"Sayaka-chan, right?" Oikawa's smooth voice startled her, pulling her from the pages of her book. He leaned casually on the table, a teasing smile playing on his lips. "What are you always studying here for?"

Mei blinked, too shocked to respond at first. Why was he talking to her?

"I... I like studying," she mumbled, clutching her pencil tightly.

Oikawa chuckled, his eyes twinkling with amusement. "You know, there's more to life than textbooks. You should come watch us practice sometime. I'll make it worth your while."

Mei's heart skipped a beat, but she quickly shook her head. "I don't really like sports..."

"Is that so?" he tilted his head, looking at her thoughtfully. "Well, maybe you just haven't seen me play yet."

Before she could respond, he winked and walked away, leaving Mei flustered and confused. It wasn't the first time he'd talked to her recently, and with every passing day, his attention only grew. She couldn't help but wonder why. She wasn't like the other girls—she wasn't bold or beautiful, just... ordinary.

Why would he even notice me? she thought, her insecurities bubbling up again. That afternoon, as she passed the gym, she overheard a group of girls giggling.

"Oikawa-kun, you're always flirting with every girl! You know they all think you like them, right?"

Mei's heart sank as she walked away before hearing his response. I knew it. He's just playing around. It doesn't mean anything.

The next day, Mei avoided the library, hoping to avoid Oikawa too. But as she walked toward her locker, a familiar voice called out to her.

"Sayaka-chan!" Oikawa caught up to her, his tone more serious than before. "Why have you been avoiding me?"

"I haven't been—" Mei started, but his gaze softened, making it hard to lie.

"You have," he said quietly, stepping closer. "Did I do something wrong?"

Mei swallowed, trying to keep her voice steady. "I just don't understand why you're talking to me. You're Oikawa Tooru. I'm... just me."

Oikawa stared at her for a moment before shaking his head, smiling faintly. "That's exactly why I like you. You're different. You don't see me the way everyone else does. I don't have to put on a show for you."

Her heart raced. "But... why me? You could have anyone."

"I don't want just anyone." His voice was soft now, sincere. "I want you."

Mei's cheeks flushed as her doubts melted away. Maybe, just maybe, someone like Oikawa could like someone like her. Before she could speak, Oikawa grinned, breaking the tension.

"So, about that volleyball practice... Still not interested?"

Mei laughed softly, shaking her head. "Maybe I'll give it a try."

"Perfect." Oikawa winked again. "I'll make sure you don't regret it."
