It was Halloween night, and Inarizaki High's gym had transformed into a spooky wonderland, complete with creepy decorations, carved pumpkins, and ghostly lights. The Inarizaki volleyball team had decided to turn their gym into a haunted house for the night, eager for a mix of scares and laughter. Hana Matsuda and Sakura Yamamoto, two friends who weren't exactly new to ghost stories, had been invited to join the team in a night full of frights and fun.
Kita, always calm and collected, looked over the decorations with a slight smile. "I see you all went all out with the haunted theme," he commented, adjusting a fake spider web one of the first-years had set up.
Atsumu grinned, mischief gleaming in his eyes. "It's Halloween! If you don't get at least a little scared, what's the point?"
Osamu rolled his eyes, holding a bag of candy. "You're only saying that because you're planning to jump out at someone."
Suna nodded, a rare smirk on his face. "I have a feeling this haunted house is going to be... interesting."
Chapter 1: Entering the Haunted Gym
As they entered, Hana and Sakura couldn't help but feel a chill in the air. The gym had been completely transformed with flickering lights, dark corners, and even an eerie fog drifting across the floor. The first thing they noticed was a skeleton propped up near the entrance, its hollow eyes seeming to follow them as they passed.
"Is that thing supposed to be real?" Sakura asked, half-joking, as she eyed the skeleton.
Atsumu sidled up next to her with a wicked grin. "Who's to say? There are all sorts of... mysterious things that happen here on Halloween."
Hana smirked, refusing to be intimidated. "If that's the best scare you have, I think I'll survive."
Chapter 2: The Dark Hallway
The first challenge was a narrow, dark hallway the team had set up with hanging cobwebs and dim, flickering lanterns. Suna led the way, barely reacting as fake spiders dropped from the ceiling. But just as they reached the end of the hall, a shadowy figure jumped out from the side, yelling.
Atsumu barely flinched, though he had been the one to set up the jump scare. Kita, however, raised an eyebrow at him. "Maybe you should've given us a heads up before nearly giving everyone a heart attack."
Atsumu just laughed, thoroughly amused by the reactions. "C'mon, Kita-san, it's all in the Halloween spirit!"
Hana nudged Sakura, laughing. "I think Atsumu's enjoying this way too much."
Chapter 3: Ghost Stories in the Locker Room
After making it through the hallway, they decided to take a breather in the locker room, which they'd filled with flickering candles and eerie decorations. Atsumu suggested sharing ghost stories, his voice dropping to a dramatic tone as he started telling a story about a haunted school gym.
"...and they say if you're here alone, late at night, you can still hear footsteps echoing across the gym floor," he whispered, looking around with wide eyes.
Suna leaned in, adding, "Or the lights flicker on, and you hear someone calling your name."
Hana rolled her eyes but smiled. "You guys are just making this up."
But before she could say anything else, the lights flickered off suddenly. Silence filled the room, and for a split second, even Kita looked slightly concerned. The lights came back on a moment later, revealing Osamu with his hand on the switch, laughing at their reactions.
"Gotcha," he said with a grin, tossing a piece of candy to each of them. "Happy Halloween."
Chapter 4: The Maze
The team had set up a small maze using gym mats and other equipment, decorated with spooky props. They took turns going through it, with the rule that whoever made it through without screaming would win a prize. Atsumu, of course, was confident he could make it without even flinching.
Suna watched as Atsumu went in first, snickering as he heard a yell from the maze a few moments later. It turned out someone had rigged a trap with a fake snake to scare whoever entered.
"Guess that prize isn't yours, Atsumu," Kita said with a smirk.
Next up was Hana, who managed to make it through most of the maze without getting scared. But as she reached the end, Osamu jumped out from behind a corner, dressed in a ghost costume. Hana let out a gasp, then burst into laughter. "Fine, you got me!"
Sakura managed to go through without a single scare, even as Atsumu tried one last time to spook her. "I guess I win," she said, grinning as she took her prize—a bag of Halloween treats.
Chapter 5: The Final Scare
Just as the night was winding down, the team decided to gather in the gym for one last scare. Atsumu announced a ghost hunt, claiming that there was an "actual spirit" wandering the gym. Hana and Sakura exchanged skeptical glances but went along with it.
As they walked around, pretending to search for the "ghost," a faint rustling sound came from the corner. Atsumu was about to make a joke when he froze. A figure, dressed entirely in white, stepped out of the shadows, holding a flickering lantern. The figure's face was hidden, and it moved slowly toward them.
For a moment, everyone fell silent, genuinely taken aback. Then, in a voice barely above a whisper, the figure said, "Why are you here?"
Everyone held their breath. Even Atsumu looked too stunned to speak. The figure took another step forward, and suddenly, Osamu burst out laughing. "Relax, it's just Suna in costume."
The "ghost" pulled off its hood, revealing Suna's smug grin. "Happy Halloween, everyone."
Chapter 6: Wrapping Up the Night
As the night ended, the team settled down in the gym to enjoy snacks and swap stories of the scares that had gone wrong. Atsumu tried to defend his jump scares, while Osamu bragged about his flawless ghost act. Kita chuckled, watching his teammates argue, looking as if this chaotic night was exactly how he wanted to spend Halloween.
Hana and Sakura shared a smile, grateful to have been part of such an exciting—and definitely unforgettable—Halloween night with the Inarizaki volleyball team.
