The Halloween night set in, casting a spooky glow over the school as the soft autumn moonlight shone down. This evening, Nekoma's volleyball team would spend a night filled with scares, courage tests, and mysterious stories, alongside close friends Rika Shimizu, Yuki Kobayashi, Natsumi Hayashi, Riko Nakagawa, and Sora Takahashi.
In the dimly lit gym, Lev had already finished decorating. Paper ghosts dangled from the ceiling, and jack-o'-lanterns glowed with grinning faces, giving the room an eerie atmosphere. The mood was set, but Kuroo, ever the planner, had a few more surprises ready for the group.
"Are you sure this is a good idea?" Natsumi asked Kuroo, casting a skeptical look at the spooky setup. "I mean, we all know Lev scares too easily."
Kuroo grinned mischievously. "That's the whole point."
Chapter 1: The Spooky Stories
As everyone settled in and shared snacks, Rika suggested they start with ghost stories to set the mood. Kenma, usually quiet, leaned back, listening as Yuki began the first story—a tale of an old, abandoned mansion near their school that was said to be cursed.
"They say that if you walk down the hallway, you can hear footsteps behind you, getting closer and closer, until you suddenly feel a chill..." Yuki lowered her voice dramatically, and Lev shifted nervously closer to Inuoka, who just chuckled and shook his head.
"Pff, footsteps behind you? That's nothing," Kuroo claimed smugly. "In my neighborhood, there's a legend of a cursed volleyball that shows up whenever a team can't accept a loss."
The group laughed, though Kenma raised an eyebrow skeptically. "Sounds like you just made that up."
Kuroo grinned but said nothing as he rose to introduce the evening's big event.
Chapter 2: The Courage Test
"All right, how about a real test of courage?" Kuroo asked, gesturing toward the old wing of the school, which had been closed off for years. "We'll split into teams, and each team has to walk to the end of the hallway and back. The catch? The lights are out, and no flashlights allowed."
"That sounds creepy," murmured Sora, looking around uneasily, but Natsumi gave her hand a reassuring squeeze and nodded. "Don't worry, we'll be fine. It's all just for fun."
The teams split up: Kuroo with Natsumi and Yuki, Kenma with Lev and Inuoka, and the remaining girls—Rika, Sora, and Riko—as the third team.
Chapter 3: Dark Shadows and Whispering Voices
As the first team entered the dark hallway, they quickly began hearing faint giggles and whispers. Lev clung to Kenma, while Inuoka tried to keep a brave face despite his own nervousness. The whispers grew louder, as if someone were following them, murmuring their names.
"I'm sure it's just the wind," Kenma whispered reassuringly, though the slight shake in his voice betrayed his own uncertainty.
The second team, led by Kuroo, made it quickly to the end of the hallway, only to hear a metallic clatter echo through the air. Yuki gave a quiet shriek, but Kuroo just chuckled. "Don't tell me a little old building is enough to scare you?"
In the third team, Rika, Sora, and Riko walked hand in hand, trying to stay calm as a cold wind blew through the hallway, making the leaves on the ground crunch underfoot. "Why do I feel like someone's watching us?" Rika asked nervously, and the other two nodded in agreement.
Chapter 4: The Big Reveal
At the end of their courage test, all the teams reunited in the gym. Lev, visibly relieved, took a deep breath and shouted, "Never again!"
Kuroo burst into laughter, clapping his hands as he doubled over. "You should've seen your faces! That was legendary!"
Just as everyone started to relax, the lights suddenly went out, plunging the gym into darkness. Before anyone could react, they felt a cold hand on their shoulders. A scream echoed through the dark, but then the lights flickered back on—and there stood Yaku, dressed up and grinning, having hidden in the shadows the entire time.
"Happy Halloween, everyone," he said with a smirk, giving Lev a playful shove, who immediately jumped back in surprise.
The group burst into laughter as the tension finally broke, and they spent the rest of the Halloween night in the gym—telling stories, daring each other, and making memories they'd remember for years to come.
