Halloween night at Aoba Johsai Academy was the one evening the volleyball team looked forward to almost as much as their tournaments. The gym had been transformed with eerie cobwebs, ghostly lights, and even a fog machine Iwaizumi had borrowed just for the occasion. Amidst the spooky decorations, the team was joined by Mei Sayaka and Sayuri Takeda, two friends who had bravely agreed to tag along with the team for a night of ghost stories, laughs, and, of course, scares.
Oikawa flashed his usual charming grin as he tossed a fake skeleton in his bag. "Alright, everyone. Who's ready for a ghost tour of the school?"
Kunimi raised an eyebrow. "Are you really going to be scared of your own setup, Oikawa?"
Sayuri laughed, nudging Mei. "With Oikawa leading, it's only a matter of time before someone screams."
Mei, trying to keep her composure, smirked. "I'm not scared... I think."
Chapter 1: The Haunted Science Lab
The team decided to start their night in the oldest wing of the school, where rumors of strange noises in the science lab had circulated for years. Iwaizumi led the way, his flashlight casting long shadows that seemed to follow them down the hall. The air was thick with dust, and each creak of the floor seemed louder than the last.
Kindaichi glanced at the others nervously. "They say the science lab is haunted by a former chemistry teacher who never left after...well, after an experiment went wrong."
Oikawa chuckled, though his eyes darted to the shadows. "Right. I'm sure she's thrilled we're visiting."
The group entered the science lab, where broken beakers and faded textbooks lay forgotten on the shelves. Kunimi gave a slight shiver, and the others gathered around an old lab table, whispering nervously as they took in the eerie silence.
Suddenly, a low hiss filled the room, and everyone froze. Mei grabbed Sayuri's arm as they turned toward the sound. Iwaizumi, as steady as ever, took a step forward and discovered the "ghostly hiss" was coming from an ancient Bunsen burner that hadn't been properly shut off.
"False alarm," he announced with a small smile, though the team was too relieved to even tease him about it.
Chapter 2: Echoes in the Gym
Back in the gym, the team decided to share ghost stories to keep the night going. Oikawa began with a story about a mysterious figure seen wandering the school grounds late at night, known only as "The Grey Ghost."
Sayuri leaned in, captivated. "And who is the Grey Ghost?"
"Legend has it," Oikawa said, his voice dropping low, "that he's a former athlete who never got over his last game, doomed to wander the school in his uniform, waiting for one more match."
Kindaichi shivered. "I hate to admit it, but that's kind of creepy."
The gym doors suddenly creaked open with a loud bang, startling everyone. Mei and Sayuri gasped, clutching each other, while Kunimi tried to cover up his surprise.
But it was only Yahaba, who'd run back in with snacks for everyone. He grinned mischievously. "Did I scare you guys?"
"Not a chance," Iwaizumi scoffed, though a few of the team exchanged nervous glances.
Chapter 3: The Rooftop Dare
The evening wasn't complete without a challenge, and Kindaichi dared Oikawa to go up to the rooftop alone. Never one to back down, Oikawa flashed a confident smile. "Piece of cake."
Mei and Sayuri tagged along with the team to follow Oikawa at a distance, sneaking up the stairs and whispering in hushed voices. The rooftop was dark, the city lights faint in the distance as a cold breeze swept across. Oikawa stepped out, trying to appear unfazed, though he couldn't help but feel a slight chill as he looked around.
Kunimi whispered to Mei, "You don't think he'll actually get scared, do you?"
Mei shook her head. "Oikawa's too stubborn to admit it if he does."
Suddenly, a shadow shifted behind Oikawa. His eyes widened as he saw it, but before he could react, the figure stepped forward—it was Iwaizumi, stifling a laugh.
"Very funny, Iwa-chan," Oikawa grumbled, though he couldn't hide the faint look of relief in his eyes.
Chapter 4: Tricks and Treats
After their rooftop adventure, the team headed back to the gym, where they'd set up a small Halloween party. Costumes, snacks, and more than a few spooky decorations filled the space. Mei and Sayuri helped decorate, adding spider webs and placing carved pumpkins in every corner.
The team shared stories of past Halloween pranks, with Kyotani recalling one particularly memorable incident where someone had swapped the team's water bottles with ghost pepper juice.
"Never again," he muttered, a hint of amusement in his usually serious tone.
Oikawa handed a treat bag to Mei with a smile. "Think you survived the spookiest night with the team?"
Mei smirked. "Barely. But this has been the best Halloween yet."
Chapter 5: The Last Scare
Just as the night was winding down and everyone was laughing over a pile of treats, the lights suddenly flickered. Everyone froze as the gym fell into darkness. Oikawa looked around, trying to spot the culprit.
"Nice try, whoever did that!" he called out, though no one admitted to turning off the lights.
A faint, eerie whisper filled the room, and even Iwaizumi looked unsettled as it grew louder. "Did...did anyone else hear that?" Sayuri whispered, gripping Mei's arm.
The whisper grew closer, sounding like a low moan that sent chills through the group. Oikawa swallowed, forcing a smile. "It's probably just a..."
But before he could finish, Kunimi flipped the lights back on, revealing Yahaba holding a tape recorder with pre-recorded ghostly moans. Everyone burst into laughter, and Yahaba grinned.
"Happy Halloween, everyone!" he said with a mischievous smile.
Chapter 6: A Halloween Tradition
With the final scare out of the way, everyone settled down, relieved that the night of spooks and scares was over. The gym was filled with laughter and excitement as the team celebrated a successful Halloween night.
As they gathered for one last group photo, Oikawa put an arm around Iwaizumi, grinning. "Same time next year?"
Iwaizumi rolled his eyes, though he was clearly enjoying himself. "As long as I don't have to listen to another one of your ghost stories."
Mei and Sayuri smiled, already looking forward to next Halloween, knowing it would be a night filled with more scares, laughter, and new memories with the Aoba Johsai team.
