"Professor, it's been three weeks and she's not awake."

"I know, Scott. I've tried waking her up, but the extent of her internal injuries was too much. She's healing, but it's taking longer than expected." Charles sighed and we both turned to Lyla's X-ray's. "Erik helped greatly after everyone threatened to send him back to the plastic cell, but there's no telling what Jean did to help."

"Her vitals are normal, thermal scans are normal." Hank continued and lightly cut Lyla's arm only for it to heal almost immediately. "Regeneration is faster than before... I don't know why she isn't waking."

"But she's fine! She's better than ever!" I exclaimed and Lyla stirred but didn't wake. "And where the hell is Jean!?"

"Calm down, lover boy." Jean rolled her eyes, walking inside the lab. "She'll wake up."

"What did you do to her?"

"Lyla was going to die. Erik quite literally broke the adamantium which broke almost every single bone in her body. It made its way into her bloodstream which ultimately poisoned her. Lyla's regeneration abilities was already slow due to the metal being in her skeleton, but once it reached her blood-"

"It came to a full stop." I realized and she nodded, placing a hand on Lyla's forehead. "So what exactly did you do?"

"I think I gave her an essence of my abilities... of the Phoenix. I also had to rebind the metal to her bones since removing it completely could kill her."

"Jean, the Phoenix combined with her atavism-"

"I've entered her mind more times than I could care to count these past three weeks, Professor. I've been learning to control it and so has she." She assured and I raised an eyebrow. "Her mind is strong, practically unbreakable. She'll have no problem in keeping it under control."

"Jean-"

"From what I learned, the Phoenix represents life, death and rebirth... I've struggled to control it these past few weeks, but it's because it's a part of me I didn't know... Lyla has already seen the darkest part of herself and made her peace. Therefore, the Phoenix won't control her."

"I think I need to sit down." I mumbled and grabbed a chair. "So she doesn't have this Phoenix thing?"

"Nope, just an essence. A small part of it that I had to give to be able to heal her."

"So she's gonna be like you? Have the same abilities?"

"She'll still be the Lyla you fell in love with, Scottie boy. We're working hard on that."

"Scott, you look horrible."

"Thanks, Storm."

"It wasn't a compliment." Ororo sighed and handed me a cup of coffee as we both watched Jean and Lyla. "She will be fine."

"Doesn't stop me from worrying." I shrugged and tensed when Lyla clenched her fists but immediately calmed down. "Am I stupid for worrying?"

"She is your girlfriend, isn't she?"

"Mhm."

"Then it's not stupid."

"It just seems like one thing after another, y'know? It never seems to end."

"And it never will. All you can do is hold each other's hand and live out the storm together."

"Funny coming from the mistress of the elements." I teased and she rolled her eyes. "The Professor wants me to go to Jersey with Peter to search for her dad."

"When?"

"Should've left an hour ago."

"The perfect one rejecting direct orders?" Ororo gasped with a smirk.

"I'm not going anywhere until she wakes up and I know she's gonna be okay."

"It's her dad, Scott. She's been searching for years."

"Logan can wait a while longer. If Charles wants to find him, her can go by himself or with Peter."

"Lyla is going to massacre you when she finds out."

"I can live with that for a while." I hummed as Jean called us over. "What happened?"

"She's ready." Jean smiled, removing her hands from Lyla's head. "It's a good thing you didn't leave for Jersey yet. She's gonna need an anchor."

"Jean, stop screaming in our minds. Some of us have work to do." Peter grumbled when Kurt teleported everyone in front of us.

"Lyla... You can wake up. It's gonna be okay." She whispered and Lyla grimaced. "Scott..."

"Lyla, I'm here." I said and stroked her cheek. "You can come back... come back to me."

"I want you to properly see her." Jean added, placing a hand on my temple and removed my glasses. "You'll see why."

We all held a breath as Lyla slowly opened her eyes and grimaced at the light.

"Oh, for fuck's sake. I almost die and nobody can dim the lights for my big entrance?" She grumbled, sitting up and everyone sighed in relief.

"Lyla, your eyes..." I gasped and gently held her face. "They're-"

"Different?"

"Perfect." I smiled and kissed her.

Her eyes were gold with the pupil barely visible and they seem to glow whenever the light hits them.

"Lyla..." Charles whispered once we pulled away and Jean handed me the glasses again. "How do you feel?"

"I feel great. Like nothing's changed." She shrugged and showed her claws which appeared normal. "How long was I out?"

"Almost four weeks. Scott was driving everyone up the wall because you wouldn't wake." Peter smirked and hugged her. "Welcome back, Ravager."

"Lyla!" Kurt exclaimed and teleported to tackle her to the ground in a hug which made her laugh.

"I missed you too, Blue!"

"She seems normal." I whispered to Jean who hit me upside on the head. "What was that for!?"

"She is normal. Just has an extra boost to her usual abilities which is great and will not make you go bald in a few years from all the hair pulling and not the good kind."

"Jean..."

"Oh, can it, boy scout. Be happy your girlfriend came back from the dead."

"I don't like this new you."

"Too bad because it's here to stay, Summers."
