"You're hiding, that's supposed to be my thing."

"I think it's best if I hide for a while."

"Scott, it's been over a week since the incident." I sighed, closing the bedroom door. "Nobody blames you for what happened."

"You were never scared of me." Scott said and I nodded. "Why?"

"You were never scared of me. Why would I be scared of you?"

"Because I can't control it."

"Scott... You have a brain injury that makes you not have control of your abilities. It genuinely doesn't matter to me."

"Alex could control it."

"Havok was tethering on the line of control up until he died. There was a reason he put himself in isolation before Charles found him."

"But he could still control it."

"Scott..." I sighed, sitting next to him. "You can't control every aspect of your life. At some point, you're going to lose control."

"But whenever I do, people get hurt... You could get hurt." He whispered and shakily held one of my hands. "I don't want you to get hurt."

"You know better than anyone that I'm not afraid of a little risk. You don't have to protect me from yourself."

"I feel like I do."

"Well, you don't. If anything, I have to protect you from me whenever I lose my mind... But you're still there to anchor me. Let me do the same for you."

"Lyla, I lead this team. I can't-"

"Even leaders can have their moments. Doesn't make you any less, Scott. It actually makes us admire you more." I smiled softly as he pulled me to straddle his lap.

"I don't know how to do this sometimes." Scott admitted and rested his head on my shoulder. "I don't know how to do this without feeling like I'm failing everyone... failing you."

"You're not failing anyone, Scott. Especially me... You don't have to have all the answers all the time."

"Then why does it feel like I have to?"

"Because you're drowning right now and won't let me pull you out."

"I don't know how to." He whispered and I pulled his head back to remove the glasses. "Lyla-"

"It's okay." I assured and removed them only to place one of my hands over his eyes. "The most dangerous part of you is covered by the most dangerous part of me and nothing has happened, has it?"

"Nothing happened." He whispered, clearly trying to assure himself and I pressed a kiss to his forehead. "Nothing happened... I have control."

"You have control." I repeated and helped him put on his glasses. "And there he is."
