Chromatober Day 10 - Swim

[This makes use of after Rainbow Quest ends. Light and M are hanging out by a deepish river to relieve stress and just take a break in general. They're platonic besties I promise they only have each other since Time and Sabre are goneee.]

[Light's POV]

After what seemed like weeks of begging, M finally convinced me to take a break with her. I would have been convinced maybe a week or so sooner if M didn't want me to go to a river with her.

It's common knowledge about my fear of water. Not because I had any horrible experience with water in my younger years which.. Which never happened...

Anyways, as my previous self was an orange steve, I had cat features. And as most people also know many cats aren't very fond of water. Me especially.. I'm not the greatest with it. In fact I was probably the Steve in the old village who actively avoided water more than anyone else.

Me and M were holding hands as we were walking deeper into the forest. She started speaking to make some idle banter. "So, how've you been, Light?" M's tail was swaying behind her, close to the ground and jewelry clinking.

I hummed. "I've been okay.. Stressed, but fine.. What about you..?" I spoke quietly. It wasn't that anything was wrong, I'd just always been a very natural soft speaker.

M pat my back. "I've been pretty good as well, stressed too though due to being the leader now. But hey! At least someone pretty cool convinced you to come out here and relax eh?"

I chuckled, lifting a hand to cover my mouth. "Yep, I guess so."

M pulled me towards herself while we walked, causing me to have to crouch down as I was much taller. "So you admit I'm cool?" She grinned from ear to ear, stifling a laugh.

"I never denied it M.. You're pretty great I'd say..! I can't think of a moment that you've ever really been not 'cool' as you say. What would make you think I didn't think so?" I asked, slightly concerned; at least as much as my mind allowed me to feel.

My emotions had been.. Not as prevalent ever since the fight with The First Curse. I wasn't entirely sure why, my memory was a bit... Fuzzy ever since then..

It doesn't matter though. They've been slowly returning like the first time and everything is fine. Our world is prospering and we're happy! Everything is okay..

M paused, almost causing me to stumble from the sudden stop. "I didn't?? I was joking around." She sighed, shaking her head. "Rrrrright.. I forgot you don't get jokes and sarcasm.."

I made an O shape with my mouth. "Ah, my apologies. I didn't realize."

M giggled and I smiled in response. "Yeah I got that, ya' goober."

I tilted my head and ears to the side, confused. "I don't get that term.. What does it mean..? I questioned, my tail curling into a question mark.

M shook her head again. "Don't worry about it, Light.. It's not important.."

"If you say so." I said.

I stood up fully and scooped M up in my arms, holding her bridal style. It caused her to yelp and her ear feathers to fluff out. M gripped onto my clothes tightly and her plumed tail wrapped around my leg. "Light!! What the heck?!"

I started again walking to the river. "You're a little bit slow.. Logically if I carry you, then we'll get there much faster." I said, not realizing this was probably embarrassing for her.

M pouted, looking away from me. "Maybe I should be there one carrying you!! You're the one working all day, I just sit in a chair. You need to relax!"

"No." I said flatly, slightly shaking my head.

M rolled her eyes. "Whatever.."

We were silent for the rest of the walk to the river. It was nice, peaceful, quiet, perfect. She grabbed my arm at one point, holding it in a nice way instead of agressive like I expected. Not sure why I thought she'd actually be mad, M is a cool person.

Once we were there, I set M down on the very edge of the river, sitting by her. She slowly slipped her hand in a bit of water, scooping it up and putting her hands in front of me as a threat. I spoke. "Noo... Don't do that p-please..?" I stuttered out.

"Buttttt revengeeeeeee!!" M lengthened the two words for dramatic affect. And even though she was threatening me with it, she dumped it back into the larger mass of water against her will.

"Thank you.." M leaned against me, tracing a talon through the water with her claw.

"I'm gonna get in the water for a bit m'kay..?" M honestly seemed a bit tired right now. I enjoyed the mood we had going, soft and sleepy. Not much happening, peace.

I nodded slowly and M got off me, slowly scooting further and further into the river until it was up to her chest while sitting.

I looked up at the sky, nothing every hue of orange, purple, and pink. This would be a nice scene to paint if I still had the skill. M was so pretty, and half submerged in the water under a sunset, in a peaceful river and surrounded by forest. Maybe I'd need to start taking up art again..

My tail swayed side to side against the grass, making a quiet noise. M leaned back, dipping her short fluffy hair in the water and closing her eyes. Her dress was wet, but she didn't seem to mind.

Even though Sabre was gone, everything was okay...
