A D I T Y A

Leaving her like this, wrapped in the sheets and still asleep, didn’t feel right, especially after the night we had. But I had a flight to catch at 10 a.m., and it was already 8. I had to get ready and meet Joravar Bhai before heading to Patna.

I moved quickly, getting dressed, my mind still lingering on Akriti. She lay there, her face calm, lips slightly parted, like an angel lost in a dream. The blanket had slipped off her at some point, and she looked so vulnerable in the morning light. I couldn’t just leave her like that. I pulled the blanket up and gently draped it around her, tucking her in, not wanting her to catch a cold.

I wanted to wake her up, to see her sleepy eyes open and meet mine, to say goodbye properly. But I knew that wouldn’t be a good idea. I had a surprise planned for her when I returned, and waking her now might ruin that. So instead, I leaned down and kissed her forehead, a long, lingering kiss, just enough to feel her warmth against my lips. I stayed there a moment longer, watching her breathe, committing this sight to memory—her hair spread over the pillow, her lips curled into a small smile, as if she was dreaming of something sweet.

Reluctantly, I forced myself to leave. I made my way out of the room, grabbing a quick breakfast before heading to the car. I had already arranged for everything to ensure Akriti’s safety while I was gone. I called Abhi earlier and asked him to stay at the mansion for the next few days. He’s the only one I trust completely with her security. Knowing he’s there brings me some peace.

As I arrived at Joravar’s place, I spotted Priyanka and little Avni in the living room. News of their budding romance had reached me through Abhi, who, as usual, wasted no time in spreading the word about the kiss he saw. I couldn’t help but smile; they deserved happiness, and it was good to see them so at ease with each other. Priyanka had a glow on her face, and Joravar looked more content than I’d seen him in a long time.

Seeing them happy gave me a sense of peace. Joravar is like a brother to me, and Priyanka, well, she’s always been like a sister. If they’ve found joy in each other, who am I to complain?

I spoke with Joravar for a while. He looked better, recovering well from the injury. He assured me he’d be back at the office tomorrow, and knowing that, I felt a little lighter. I knew Akriti would handle things perfectly in my absence, but it’s always good to have someone like Joravar around.

With everything settled at Joravar’s, I left for the airport, my thoughts still tangled up with Akriti. I couldn’t help but picture her in our bed, still curled up beneath the sheets, her breathing soft and steady. Her hair spread over the pillow like a halo, her lips slightly parted in sleep. I missed her already, and I hadn’t even left yet. Patna couldn’t come soon enough. I needed to finish this business and return to her.

As I settled into my seat on my private jet, I was relieved. Taking the jet would make it faster, and I couldn’t waste a single second now. The tension in my chest tightened as I thought about why I was even doing this in the first place.

This time, Dad had crossed the line. He always had his plans, his strategies, and his schemes, but this... this was a new low. Even after threatening me, after using every tactic to manipulate me into doing things his way, he had pulled this stunt. I clenched my fists, trying to control the surge of anger that bubbled up. I couldn’t keep calm anymore. Not when he’d decided to play his games with the one person I cared about more than anything.

Five minutes before takeoff, my phone rang. I knew it had to be Akriti. I had left her a note, knowing she’d call as soon as she woke up. I’d even set out her medicine and some juice to help with the hangover. She didn’t need to feel worse than necessary.
