My voice trembled as I recounted the painful memory, but before I could finish, he gently placed a finger on my lips, silencing my words. He pulled me into a tight embrace, his silence speaking volumes. The warmth and security of his hold felt like a fragile sanctuary amidst my turbulent emotions.
"Please, let me speak. Bohot himmat karke aaj bol rahi hu toh mujhe chup mat karao," I pleaded, my voice cracking under the weight of my suppressed anguish. It was important for me to let these things out, to free myself from the pain and suffering that had haunted me for so long. I knew that if I didn't, these memories would continue to torment me for a lifetime.
His eyes softened with understanding, and he nodded slightly, encouraging me to continue. I took a deep breath, trying to steady my shaking voice.
“That day, my friend convinced me to go to the club, three days after you left me,” I began, my words spilling out in a rush. “She thought it would be a good distraction, a way for me to change my mood. So, I agreed. At first, it was fun. I enjoyed dancing and drinking, but then I got drunk. In that state, I missed you so much that when a man approached me for a dance, I mistook him for you. I hugged him, thinking it was you.”
I paused, feeling his arms tighten around me. The strength of his embrace gave me the courage to continue.
“He took advantage of my vulnerability and led me to a room. I was so lost in my thoughts of you that I didn’t realize what was happening. When we got to the room, he started touching me inappropriately. It was then that it hit me—this wasn't you. You would never do such things without my consent. He even tore my dress.”
Just remembering that night gave me goosebumps, and I shivered in his arms. He guided me to a chair, sat down, and pulled me onto his lap, holding me tightly. My grip on his neck was firm, my face resting on his shoulder. I couldn’t bring myself to look at him, fearing his reaction. Still, I continued.
“I protested, begged him to stop. My eyes were red from crying. My whole life flashed before my eyes, and the only thought in my mind was that I had kept myself only for you. I wanted you to be my first. But that dream was shattered. He touched my breasts and tried to open my bra. Just then, the door burst open, and there was Mona, standing there to save me. She pulled me away from him, but by then, I was numb. My body had betrayed my mind. The whole way back, I kept thinking about what would have happened if she hadn’t arrived in time.”
“Shhh, don’t think too much,” he said softly, patting my head gently.
“That night became my worst nightmare. I couldn't sleep. All I wanted was your comfort, but you were gone. I cried the entire night, wondering why you left, what was lacking in me. It was too much to bear, and I fainted. The next day, my parents admitted me to the hospital. My mental health was in shambles.”
“I found out about this only today. Yesterday, when you fainted, the doctor told me to consult your doctor. So, I talked to your friend, Dr. Shreya. She told me everything. I promise, I will find that man and make sure he pays for what he did.”
“You knew about this?” I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.
“Yes. That’s why I thought we needed to talk about it. But everything happened so fast. It hurts me deeply to know that you went through all of this and didn’t trust me enough to tell me,” he said, his voice filled with pain.
